I ended up on this video accidentally from the autoplay, I wasn't seeking out info on expanders but I watched the video anyway just cuz you're entertaining to watch! the banjo music gave me a chuckle too, love it

You know it helps to oil the threads, the tapers and the inside of the pipe. Oil just makes the whole operation work smoother.

I bought one of those years ago from Harbor Freight and it was a disaster. The threads stripped out before it even expanded the pipe. I even lubed the threads with Moly grease. Good to see the Sears model worked good.

There were two in the box. The small one broke first time I tried it. The big one worked. Not so happy that the small one is toast.

I used one like this that was a loaner from a store. Two tips from my experience, you definitely want to use a well mounted vice (or two) or something, standing on it probably won't do, lol. Also, set your workpiece in a warm place for a bit, before you start, if it's cold. Good luck out there!

always grease the bolt threads with high pressure grease before using to save the threads.

Ah..... Yes, those wayward threads need to be saved. I usually tell them about Jesus while I'm putting the nuts on.

It did the job ok , i wonder if there is a better way , i`m thinking like some sort of expander fitting to work with a porta power for home use ??? i have seen the fancy hydraulic ones in exhaust shops that work in seconds with zero effort , very nice , but probably out of reach for most of us average joes .

Yea, this is pretty good and affordable. I've used it more than once already and happy to have one.

Is that pipe steel or aluminium? i guess thicker stainless steel might be out of its league, but i was wondering if it worked on 1.8mm steel.
@rpeek

It's steel. I suspect you're right. Stainless probably would be too much for it.

Hard to say without seeing it. I think you'll have to decide for yourself on this one.

... Do you think it would work with the likes of titanium tube, with a seam (not split it)?.

On closer look....you are trying to expand the pipe to fit an expanded side of the other pipe....You went too far.
