On the 5th - 7th August 2022 707 Operations once again held The Riverlander tour, which visited Shepparton in northern Victoria, and Tocumwal over the Murray River in New South Wales. The tour was hauled solo by V/Line's heritage locomotive A66 which was recently repainted in V/Line's original orange and gray 'Tangerine' livery dating from 1983. The tour was A66's first solo heritage tour since being repainted. The train was meant to have been led by steam locomotive R707 with A66 joining on to assist, which would have marked the first time a steam locomotive visited north of Shepparton in many years. Unfortunately locomotive R707 had a major failure last minute and was unable to join the train, leaving A66 to haul the train solo.
The train left Melbourne Friday evening, with the guests spending Saturday in Shepparton before spending the night at Katunga. The train traveled up to Tocumwal on Sunday, with guests having the chance to explore the river town, before departing for Melbourne mid-afternoon.
In this video we chase the Riverlander, starting with its Saturday afternoon arrival at Katunga, before chasing it as it heads back to Melbourne from Tocumwal on Sunday. We see it depart over the historic rail bridge at Tocumwal, before seeing it at numerous locations along the line including Numurkah, Tallygaroopna, Shepparton, Nagambie, Seymour, before finishing the chase at Tallarook at dark.
