Great to see a youngster who is interested in maintaining their own bike. I have a big block Guzzi and its a breeze to do the valve clearances. Yesterday I checked the clearances on my beloveds Himalayan, which takes three times as long, most of the time is spent getting the tank on and off and fishing arround for all the connectors and pipes.

Strange the Himalayan did mine a few months ago Think the engine runs backwards

Well done. Brings back memories of myself as a young man with my dad back in the early 90s doing the same on my Monza -- thanks.

Great video Well done 👏 One of my friends had a V50 mark 2 and the shafted drive seized when he picked it up from the garage 😮😮😮

Never heard of that happening Presumably a baring failure

I put my thumb over the spark plug hole while me mate turns the rear wheel. You can feel when it's on compression stroke and the valves are off the lobes. Edit- years ago I worked at a Honda dealership. The new 750's & the CBX used shims to set the valves. The smaller & older bikes had screw & locknut adjusters. Some models were difficult, others almost adjusted themselves like magic. The CB-650's were the easiest.

Or you can look just at the valves 🙄

That bike is clean . I don't believe Tom has someone else wash it for him lol . So good to see a dad passing down his passion and knowledge to his son . I am sure this will remain in his memory for life . Such a good looking bike . I have to ask , is it pronounced moto guzzi ? Or is it moto gutzi ? They're rare in the states . They're so rare that people don't want them for parts finding difficulties . And if you need a mechanic the guy at the Honda shop won't know what to do with it generally speaking .

Gutzi I constantly get it wrong, in the usual English manor

It used to be common for old spark plugs to be modified into a tdc finding tool, ive used them myself in the past. That 350 Imola is quite a rare bike in the UK,come to think of it i dont think Moto Guzzi sold many of their other 350 models here either

Do you re-torque the heads at all prior to the valve adjustment?

The engine has been together for some time and through a number of heat cycles so it would seem unnecessary

Are these small blocks the ones that drop exhaust valves or is that the 4 valve?

Well four valve According to mechanics valve failures on two valves can of course occurs but failures are less likely to occur Than in many contemporary machines with many running up high mileages with no problems Its one of those things owners of Japanese bike owners dredge up Call it an inferiority complex on their part 😂

Considering buying an V35 Imola. How is the availability on parts for this rather old lady?

No problem at all Items like clutches are shared with the modern V7 for example Body panels are easily available used on EBay but there are Guzzi parts specialist too
