That’s wonderful! You forgot the rear latch on the canopy. Maybe change the checklist to say “both” canopy latches.😄

I recall the pure joy when the wheels broke ground on a ‘39 Cub basket case we picked up and completely restored. There was nothing like it after 6months of sandblasting, priming, covering and the hundred little things required to bring it to its former glory. You must be so satisfied and proud after the long hours and careful attention. Good luck enjoying. I’m with you in the cockpit.

Congratulations! Beautiful aircraft and superb flying! I attempted to build an airplane back in the 1990's but due to heavy work schedule I just didn't have the time to get it done. I nearly completed one wing but ended up donating it to Embry Riddle for their airframe mechanic department. It was going to be a Fisher Dakota Hawk. Now I'm 75 years old and am unable to get my medical certificate due to health issues. I miss flying so much but don't know any pilots here locally in Clearwater, Florida. My love for aviation began at 5 years old and I got my Private Pilot's License at age 17. Went on to earn my Commercial and Instrument. I'm jealous but I am happy that there are KZitem channels such as yours where I can ride along. God bless you! Stay safe.

@@scotasaurus accomplished 1.6 hours of engine break in and Phase I testing. Performance numbers met expectations but propeller pitch adjustment should get me a little more. Oil temps were good as were EGT. CHT were near top of the green range for most of the flight (was mostly operating at or near WOT to accomplish break in). The two hottest (aft) cylinders tipped into the yellow during hardest climb. Am hoping those all decrease with break in and once I switch from mineral oil to running oil. Kind of you to ask. Your video really was exciting to watch, due to my situation, especially after more than 1.5 years of working on the project. Stay Awesome 😎🎩♠️💙

Thanks! It’s all about protecting the nose on landing. This point was driven home by many RV flyers. In fact, the nose wheel is to be used for ground operations only…it’s not a “landing” gear.

Man, I actually love the RVs that are completely bare interior. Just feels rough and raw. CHTs stabilized now? I’m breaking in an IO-550 and it runs hot but I’m running 25/25. Seals need to seat so I don’t pull power at all
@scotasaurus

Bare interior is lighter too. Every ounce counts. Yes. CHTs are stable now. Actually they run a bit too cool for my liking at cruise with lower temps.

You did so many things correctly on this first flight. You want the flight to be boring such that you can calm down as you build familiarity. And that appears to be what you did. Different people will calm down at different rates. It appears that you did it quickly. Praise God. Although you did explore speeds low enough for landing while at altitude, I didn’t see you proceed that with a deliberate controllability check. e.g., exercise each control to confirm that you had adequate control authority to support approach and landing. Was that deliberate or inadvertent?
