The recent discovery of Varroa in some hives in NSW means beekeeping in Australia has just taken an almighty hit. And the beekeeping and pollination industry are under severe threat with the parasite, known as Varroa Destructor. Varroa is arguably the biggest problem for honey bees worldwide. And up until recently, Australia is the only honey producing continent in the world free of this parasite. The NSW Department of Primary Industry has put measures in place to prevent the spread of Varroa and hopefully eliminating it in Australia completely. But this is not an easy task. We are in full support of any measures introduced to stop this problem and encourage all beekeepers, amateur and professional, to follow the guidelines from the experts.
Because of strict instructions from the Amateur Beekeepers Association (ABA),
unfortunately it was forbidden to share the information shared in a
slide show compiled by the ABA on Varroa.
So, Bruce White presented some important information to members,
along with the slide show.
Apologies for the quality of this audio recording,
but unfortunately, we were not permitted by the ABA to record and share this content
as we would have chosen and share the slide show
with other beekeepers. So we have recorded the audio from Bruce White’s
presentation for your information and in the genuine spirit of
“Better Apiculture though Knowledge”.
Thank you to Bruce White for sharing his vast experience freely and willingly.
🙏 Thank you for watching this video.
