These reviews are so important to me. I’m in the market for a commuter, but I have a hill right by my place. My main reason for getting an ebike is that hill. So these reviews are invaluable in seeing what the real life performance is like (rather than descriptions like “it has 500w of POWER, so hills are no problem” Ok).

So I got the Velotric Discovery 1 recently and it is now a 5 PAS step level. 8mph, 11mph, 14.5mph, 17.2mph, 20.6mph found that PAS 3-4 with gear 6 kept the bike under 500W during the climb at 14-17mph (5% Grade) Some of the instructions are outdated since they updated their build/software. Also packaging was a lot better though the rims were not trued up. Luckily they are willing to reimburse me for taking it to a shop and get it trued

I like the 440 pound load rating. I'm looking for an electric bike to get more exercise as part of my weight loss program. I'm currently 350 lb so it's nice to know I'm not going to break it in half immediately. I realize that range and speed are going to be greatly affected but that really isn't a big concern of mine as I'm using it for exercise and not commuting

My wife and I purchased two Discover 1s on sale for $1,100 each. We love them. My wife’s commute is 500 to 1000 feet gain in elevation and the bike handles the hills no problem even with her laptop and other work items. The brakes work very well. The range is excellent . 40-60 miles. Again, we love these bikes, but I do have some feedback for Velotrec. The bike would be better if they expanded the range of their sprockets. The highest gear is good for power level 4, but not quite so good for power level 5. You have to pedal extremely fast on power level 5 to avoid “ghost pedaling” (i.e. pedaling with no resistance)
@helenfromsun2009

Very good review full of detail! One thing I would ask is how does this bike work for humans of different heights? The seat-to-handle-bar distance is very important for comfort and in short people that can be a limiting factor even though the seat is adjustable for leg length. I'm going to assume the bike doesn't come in different frame sizes like standard bikes do. Perhaps you could enhance your reviews by having different people ride it? A very short and a very tall? A woman and a man? Or, simply state the seat-to-handle-bar distance in comparison with other ebikes. Thanks!

Are there plugs to be able to disconnect the back wheel for a tube/tire change, without having to disassemble the wiring? How about the front brake wires? The aventon had the plugs and is sold locally, so that makes me feel for comfortable repairs or service will be available. I like the price tag and features of the Velotric but without a local dealer, I’m not comfortable with service or repair availability.

Nearly all the comments are on the review and not the bike. Before making a decision on your freebie I would think at least a 100 miles should be on it. How hard to assemble and when done was there any broken, bent or missing parts? Most importantly when done with the test was the bike donated or is it sitting in the garage with all the others?

Thank you for an in-depth, illustrative review of the Discovery 1! I'm a 150lb, mature-age female that's looking for a comfortable bike that can handle streets and some off-road riding while providing some needed exercise. I'm torn between this stationary bike and a foldable one, for more convenience. I tested the RadEpand, this Discovery 1, and the Velotric 500.3 in trying to make a choice. Each bike has features the others do not. I just discovered the foldable Electra online but it seems to take a while for delivery due to demand. Any advice would be awesome! - Thanks

It seems that this bike is not suitable for shorter individuals. I purchased the bike that is recommended for Rider Heights between 5’1” and 6’4”. Unfortunately, my wife and I, who are respectively 5'1" and 5'2", have to hop off the seat every time we come to a stop, which is uncomfortable and inconvenient. I tried to return the bike, but Velotricbike wants to keep $200 plus 20% of the purchase price, which is not a fair deal for me. The bike looks promising but Customer service is a joke. 1-2 business day responses. They refuse to price match a bike that dropped in price 8 hours after I purchased it. They claim price match policy does not allow for discount codes, despite me being able to apply the code to the new pricing without a problem. So they won’t honor the actual price I’d pay for the bike if I’d waited 8 hours. I would have just canceled the order and re ordered it but they don’t respond for 1-2 business days and the bike shipped. Now they’re saying there’s a $200 restricting fee to return and reorder at the new pricing.
