That only works for chicken breeds that carry a feather growth restriction gene. The males will have inhibited feather growth while growing their first set of true feathers, and the females will have normal feather growth.

@@GalinaDomesticana I've heard the same. That you can maim or injure them to sore levels by doing it wrong. Tbh my best methods since have been "wing sexing" and checking their attitudes. I currently have silkie mixes and quail, and I've done best by checking wings and the moods. If that makes sense. The females always seem to have the broader, fuller little wings (you have to check within the first 3-4 days) and the more chill attitudes. The females have fuller more even wings. And the males are the most attitudinal. At this point I just go by gut feeling. I've never felt comfortable pressing on their bellies. My luck it would go awry. I wish you the best of luck!

Excellent video for a noob when it comes to chickens. I have a move in rooster and I'm going to get him some girlfriends after I get a coop built but was very curious about this process in case one ends up broody and I end up with chicks. Thank you so much. I do have a question for you. Do you have a recommendation of a small incubator that will turn the eggs when I'm at work? I'd just want a small one in the case I end up with eggs that I find that are fertilized after verifying by candling them. I have a Rhode Island Red rooster and plan to stick with the same breed for the females. Not sure if that makes sexing or incubating any easier though. Lol!

Nathaniel Koren hi, I was curious about the make and model of his incubator/Hatcher if you could tell me I’d appreciate it. Thanks.
@nathanielkoren860
4 жыл бұрын
His incubator is a Hatchrite. It was designed by a company in Oklahoma. The company designed this incubator for ratite eggs, emu, ostrich, and rhea. When ostrich and emus were booming they designed those incubators. The incubators cost $12,000 brand new, but when the bottom fell out of ostrich and emus they also went out of business because no one could afford their incubator. Even though the company went out of business they still have a great product. They are hard to find and if anything goes wrong on them, it’s like digging for gold trying to find new parts. In his video he has a model 988 or a 698. You can still find those incubators for sale from time to time, but it’s pretty hard. They price range on them now is anywhere between $600-$2,000. They are extremely cool incubators because they roll the eggs, and you can control how often you turn the eggs, and for the size of eggs. I have a friend in Florida by the name of Jay Winslow who rebuilds those incubators. You might be able to find him on FB and hit up to see if he knows of any for sale. I have a link here to a video I did with my incubator on candling eggs. Nathaniel’s Egg Candling Eggstravaganza kzitem.info/news/bejne/o5WM132MhHp4q34
