Thank you so much for posting this video. I can confirm that the recipe your recited is extremely close to the real thing. We split batch LB, brew one with Lalbrew New England and the other with US-05. We then combine batches in the bright tank to carbonate and package from. We don't use any kettle finings. AA% of Simcoe is usually 13% and Centennial 8-9%. Personal favourite hops of mine but Centennial is so widely grown that it's tricky to find the really great stuff...but when it's good I think it's such a beautiful citrus/floral hop. LB settles out pretty clear after about 3 weeks, perhaps you had a fresh can? LB has always had not so great head retention, but i've always put it down to the relatively high oat % wrecking any chance of that. Cheers!

James Heffron thank you for your kind comments. I love Verdant beers and I am currently working on a recipe to try and replicate Quiet Charge which is one of my favourite Verdant Beers. I attended a beer festival in South Africa in April and took some Verdant cans there for the professional brewers to try at a sharing of beer meeting. They were highly impressed with them and I intend going again next April so I will take some more for them to try. All the best 👍

The commercial beer may have been lighter but no head, no lacing, looks like you did a great job. And it helps to see that a fellow brewer suffers from wife related beer theft too but a back handed compliment isn't always bad ;-)

David, Thank you for posting this video. I found it a very interesting watch as I am about to brew this recipe this weekend from a kit that I picked up from The Malt Miller. I have a question that you may be able to help me with if you could be so kind? On the process it states 20g of Centennial and 20g of Simcoe at 0 min. Is this where you mention in the video about a 5 minute whirlpool and a 15 minute hopstand? Could you advise if this is done immediately after the boil, when the wort is just off the boil, or do you allow it to cool down some before adding the hops? I am new to AG brewing, and this is the first time I have come across a recipe with hopstand, so hopefully you would be happy to share your wisdom. Thank you.

Fantastic stuff David, great to see Heather enjoying the brew, don't think it's going to hang around long :) Its funny how despite the clarity difference they taste so similar. Anyway sorry I might have given you the wrong yeast details, half a pack of Us_05 and Half a pack of 04 was on the original recipe so i don't know if that affected the haze, but doesn't look light it mattered in the end. This has made me seriously thirsty, cheers to you both 🍻

Jimbo's Homebrew Cheers Jim we are both well oiled now as they say up here in the sticks! On the back of the Lightbulb can it says Lallbrew New England yeast which is what I used, but as you say, it hardly matters as it was lovely and mine of course was much cheaper!

Try a shorter boil with no finings if you're ever going to replicate it, and maybe a less flocculant yeast and you'll probably see more haze

Hello! Just subscribed. I have recently done a rebrew of a hoppy beer, and by mistake I forgot to add a protofloc tablet the first time. I also split the fry hop in half, half for 5 days half for 3 days. It was hazy and very hoppy in terms of flavour and aroma. This time though, I added a protofloc and all the hops in at once. Completely different beer! I have read the haze almost helps carry aroma much better. Did you add a protofloc in this?
@Dts1953
4 жыл бұрын
greg mellor thanks for subscribing.. I think I did put a protofloc tablet in but next time I brew it I will miss it out as I think it would have been better as a hazier beer.. I do enjoy this style of beer but I try and brew all styles throughout the year as I find it more exciting and it keeps me interested in this wonderful hobby.

I have been learning a lot from my SMaSH beers. The color difference could be from the oils in your hops vs the hops they used. I dont think it would be that big of a difference but it might be. It almost looks like you used a high flocculating yeast but a Kolsch yeast is low. The haze is going to be from suspended yeast and protein. For the taste did you use the AA% as the store beer? If your hops had less AA% then your flavor might be less. Can't wait to see the tasting of the Hoppy Wheat. Cheers

Brad Allison Cheers Brad excellent comment. I think you have nailed it! They used the same yeast as me according to the can but I don’t know what the Alpha Acids of their hops were. Obviously they are commercial brewers and you can never match the real version with a Homebrew one. Having said that my wife said she prefers mine but I preferred , only slightly, the commercial one. Looks like I will brew this again soon.

Arse, comment Vavoom again ☹️! Must remember to either write the comment in a wordish document or copy it before posting, whole paragraph gone again☹️ . The gist was: Great camera work, stuff about product shots and great panning 👍. Big rant about cheap cloudy beers with top notch prices 😣. Apologies about big rant 😲 . Your beer is far superior as it's clear (as all beers should be) and tastes the same 👍. Great update as usual 👍👍. Cheers, Schnuz. (that was about the size of the reply but you will have to unfortunately fill in the blanks as I can't be arsed to retype it all 😲 🤣!)
