Everyone is rightly lauding Victor Borge (and his son), but Marilyn Mulvay was also phenomenal in this. Thank you to all who have commented on the joy this video has brought to you. I took this from a video cassette my parents got when I was a Child. I thought it a worthy addition to the “archives of the internet” for others to enjoy. Seems to me he had a beautiful innocent irreverent quality to the logic of his performance, and he was truly a performer, these qualities perhaps a factor to his timeless appeal. I grew up on the BBC’s Goon Shows, an influence from my uncle. I find the comedy similar to that of Spike Milligan, Peter Sellars and Harry Seacombe - Truly amongst the original greats of comedy, whose jokes have been retold in various ways since, but originated by them. 😊

Yes it can be frustrating not to hear a piece all the way through. But I've been told that at the very beginning of each show he would test out his audience to see if they wanted more comedy or music by their response. Then he would go one way or another. That's why we grow old and die. We're in the way of progress, be it good or bad. I can not help comparing it to not having interest in, and knowing what it was like to endure an Indian attack while trying to move into an untamed west. Still, it seems more and more important to me that we should be able to somehow be able to recall and experience viscerally, without the benefit of knowing the future, to be able to experience the agony and the wonders of the past. It would frighten me to be transported to a mideival time to witness the struggle and hardship they endured but, if science ever figures out how to transport us to anyplace in the past that we want, I'm sure it would help to put things in better perspective, and put humanity on a much better coarse.😮

Wow..such memories. In 1962 I worked at a bank in downtown DC; Victor Borge was a guest at a JFK pre-inaugural reception at the bank (two blocks from the White House.). I met him, brought him a glass of water; he was SO easy to talk to, a real gentleman. That must have been my first encounter with a celebrity; it was so exciting for a 21 year old. I will always remember that. RIP.

Took me a minute to realize when he was flipping the sheet music, he was wetting his finger on his right hand and turning the music with his left hand. 🤣🤣

I saw him with my sons in Sarasota Florida in 1993 or 94. He was at the Van Wezel...they had to add seats on the stage to get more people in. My family and I were fortunate to sit in the front row on stage! He talked to my 8 yo son and joked around with us! He was Fabulous! At intermission people thought we were part of the act! I tried to find a video of that to no avail! Wish there had been cameras on phones back then! Victor Borge was theGreat Dane....and the greatest entertainer of all!! God rest his soul!

I meant to say that when Victor walked out on stage his first words to us on stage with him was "Did you remember your instruments? " 😆

I was watching an interview with Victor Borge by I believe it was Johnny Carson. He was asked why he did comedy when he was a world renowned pianist. Mr. Borge asked how many world renowned pianists can you name? They came up with 4 or 5 names. Mr. Borge asked "And how many of them have a comedy act?".

I've never laughed so much in a long time and was in tears at the routine with the tall young man who was enlisted to turn the music pages. Sheer brilliance. I've seen the 'hands off' routine several times but it's always funny and Marilyn Mulvey is such a good sport. I used to love Victor when I was young back in the dark ages and his routines have lost none of their magic. Thanks Ross for posting.

His (somewhat) dry-type humor is/was the GREATEST. He would come across as 'serious' but then, he 'gotcha'. Loved him & his complete style of doing, even, seriously, his music.

I saw Victor Borgia in Sydney with my cousin. It was about 1962 .I was 15 at the time and enthralled by this wonderful unique comedian. I am now close to 73 and watched this film as it came up and my husband was interested to view it. We both agreed that no comedian s today have the class, the skill or the clean comedy that Mr Borgia brings to-an audience... this house was packed. I noticed a comment that said he was the Charlie Chaplain of music. I would have to agree with that. This did as another person commented take us out of the Corona virus isolation prison. What a breath of fresh air and what a comedic genius.
