In this analysis we'll look at how games manage challenge and difficulty in an ever-changing environment of player skills, technological limits, and flow maintenance. We'll discuss how to define difficulty, then categorize it and apply this framework.
This is Part 1 of this analysis, with Part 2 coming soon. Because this topic requires more time than our previous longforms, dividing it up should allow the viewer (and us!) some time to digest, because this stuff can be overwhelming.
