Just once I`d like to see a review of a clean channel on an amp where the player actually PLAYS and doesnt sit there pickin silly jangles. For everyone outside the very few who are either beginners or thrashers, like everyone who plays Funk, Blues, R&B, Country, Classic Rock, Jazz, Classical, etc.etc.etc.etc...or players who prefer pedals....we would like to hear the clean channel chopped a bit. Ya know, chop out some riffs. Maybe strong strumming, or pumpin out some Funk riffs. The Clean channel is the backbone of an amp. Now I know there are those who shred and so do I, sometimes, but from this video, and every other video Ive watched trying to castch a good idea on this amps clean channel I get jingles. Just sayin...

Excellent review. It missed one very important point, however. The power-tube saturation of the clean channel when the volume goes past 12 o'clock is probably the most inspiring sound this amp can make.

@jazzrockblues95 a head is an amp, where the sound actually comes from is a speaker. it's the same in a combo amp, except that the amp and speaker are one unit, instead of being separated. So to answer your question: the head IS the amp, and the sound comes out of the speaker.

I agree with you, up to a point. I is not only about sound, but also about quality. The building isn't the same, the tolex, the knobs, the inside construction and the technology, all those things are really important. that's why people preffer amps made in england, usa, germany, due to the construction quality.

Really nice review! Reese tried one of these out, but liked both the Rockerverb 50 & the Tiny Terror better for his tone, and guitar (Gibson Les Paul with Burstbucker Pros). Hey I just preordered one of these and am really excited about it. The only thing that worries me a bit from your video it how high the volume needed to be on the dirty channel. I running the head through orange pcp 212 open back. Do you you think the volume will be ok for bar gig settings with a heavey hitting drummer?

Sure. But when it comes to Orange I have to say, I've owned a Dual Terror, TH30, a PPC112, and a PPC212. All made in China. All built like tanks. I beat 'em to hell and never had a single problem with any of them. And I've heard very few complaints from anyone else who buys Chinese-made Orange products. If you'd rather by American for more ethical reasons, that's one thing. But from a quality standpoint, Orange has it. Chinese or British.

@Juan Germano, I actually talked to Orange, and they assured me that what you refer to as inside construction and technology is identical to Orange amps mde in England. This amp and the TH100 were both completlely designed in England with the same quality components as their Made In England. Their strategy is that if they can build these qualty amps using cheaper labor then they can offer you great amp that wont break the bank.

hey dude, great sound! do you think the th30 would stand ok for a live METAL concert of about 1000 people(small venues in general), or do i need to buy the th100, 100watt version of it??
@MackTheKnifeSlowly
2 жыл бұрын
30w is fine if they're mic'ing your cab or running a DI out into the PA. If venue is sparse and there's no PA beyond vocals, you'll want 100w for headroom / volume to project off stage (1k is a decent size place). For comparisons sake, I saw Primitive Man in front of maybe 300ppl, and they were using multiple hundred watt heads and four 4x12s for guitar, two 8x10s for bass.

@voxac30blues The TH30 has the same wattage options as the Dual Terror. 30/15/7. They would both be fine being used in your bedroom or living room, and they can also be used in a jam situation. 30 watts can get pretty loud. That said, the only thing to decide should be which tone you like better, and which can you afford? I personally would choose the TH30.

I have this and play it through a 2x12. I'm a bit miffed about some of the comments here. This is a solid, quality amp and has fantastic dynamics from your picking. Maybe this video doesn't do it justice, but there is plenty to like about this amp, and it is definitely not thin. The guitar is a mid range instrument anyway, why do so many of you seem to want endless amounts of bottom end? Yeah it will sound great in the bedroom, but in a band, you will get lost. This amp has fantastic mid range response and punch.

I owned this amp for seven years and eventually traded it for another amp. There are many great things about it. The clean channel was stellar and the dirty grinds like no other. The deciding factor for me was the shape knob. I had some cabinets that really didn't make this amp shine. Looking back I wish I would have just gotten an EQ pedal into the effects loop.

What I've learned about this amp is that in order to really hear it's full potential, you have to have it cranked. I played mine at really low volumes for the longest time and to me the dirty channel seemed very fizzy and unusable for Led Zeppelin style rock. I almost got rid of it. But once you crank it all the way or almost all the way, and dial back the gain a little that sound bleeds through! Adding an EQ and EQing out (respectively) around 2000k and above also is very helpful.

Orange heads are very polar. You love them or you don't love them. When I chat with my musician friends, I find that there is not really a middle ground. That being said, I love them. The hiroglyphic symbols are a unique and nice feature. I just don't like the color! I know, it's a shallow, insignificant thing, but i just cant get over it. I have a certain look and vibe I want to project on stage or in my living room, and it just doesn't fit the overall projection. I LOVE the sound!

If your an absolute gear head and can afford to spend excess of $1,600+ on your new English Orange amp, good for you. But What is wrong with stuff like the TH30 or or the new OR Series. haihui, I use a Maxon OD-808 in front of the amp as a booster just to tighten up the bass a bit and to add some extra juice. The dirty channel is set like Volume at 11 o'clock, Shape at 1 o'clock and Gain at about 12 o'clock. The 808 is set to full left on Drive, full right on Balance and at about 11 o'clock at Tone. It works like a charm. With a Les Paul I get from a solid rock tone to a good high gain sound just by stepping on the 808.

Hi all, I have noticed a small problem with this amp. when I select 2 tubes on the back of the amp and then turn on the amp, the clean channel sounds like the dirty channel. if I select the dirty channel and then back to the clean channel ,everything is normal. this only happens when I select 2 tubes on the back of the amp. this is normal for this amp?
@andrewpolitano
6 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. The amp has less headroom at lower wattage due to higher plate voltage being applied at the tube level. You’re saturating the tubes with input signal much more than if you were playing at full wattage. A watt is a watt, doesn’t have an effect on perceived loudness at all.

WithFullDistortion Orange amps on their own aren't the tightest amplifiers. the distortion is a bit fuzzy in the low end, that's why they're often used in Stoner genres. however, when boosted, the low end tightens up really nicely, giving you a really fat brutal tone that cuts really nice through a band mix. i own the Orange cr120, which is basically an analogue rockerverb, and it kicks some serious ass when boosted. cheers
