A BLOB of grenadine. That has to be one of the most out there units of measurement to date

I was waiting in a bar for a restaurant with friends. I’d taken too much insulin and had forgotten to bring glucose, and my blood glucose was dropping fast. I ordered a double shot of simple syrup. The bartender didn’t know what I meant. I then ordered grenadine. It did tend to blob but I don’t think I could define a blob by volume.

I think a blob is about the same size as a glug or a glob... probably two spoons. And yeah I didn't need you to tell me you'd already been drinking, or for Jules to say guess which is the sixth, that little giggle about 0:04 told me all I needed to know. LOL I was worried for the glasses when you two toasted so enthusiastically!

I had a friend who has sadly passed a while back, but who's family had immigrated to the US and made their version of a Jamaican rum punch. They used a mix of Wray and Nephew and the same Smith and Cross rum you used. They also steeped dried hibiscus and mauby bark in some sweetened water, with some other spices, plus the usual fruit juices. It was AMAZING! And it would sneak up on you if you drank too many cups of punch. I miss those holiday parties.

My daughter and I have a tendency to simply omit the sugar or simple syrup in cocktails especially if any of the other ingredients are on the sweet side. Some people love sweet drinks. I think they give you a headache. We have yet to find that we needed that extra sweetness. Time will tell.

Maybe - but you also have to realise that those are two completely different glasses. The difference in the shape of the bowl makes it very hard for you at home watching a video to accurately judge the size of the blob.

For “blob” I would favour a sufficiently small amount that it’s held together by its own surface tension. Which of course depends on exactly how sweet the grenadine is, but perhaps that’s the genius of it!

There is nothing wrong with keeping the Woodford and Basil in the front of the cabinet. Makers may tone down the molasses to a more carmel note.

This is not a disparaging remark! Not a troll! I enjoy the presentations very much. Your wife Julie has a mannerism that is very familiar to me. I couldn't put my finger on it. Then shazam! Julie leans on the counter much in the same way a bartender leans on the bar. This channel does videos of making cocktails. So maybe in the past she was a bartender. Maybe she is now. As I was long,long ago. It's not a critique or criticism. My observation is in no way negative.

The KZitem Ai thinks that it's a euphemism for another word. Everytime I use the word Jigger, the video gets demonitised... which really means KZitem still runs ads, they just don't / won't give me the money until I go through a manual human review process.

@@GlenAndFriendsCooking I hate it when you have to explain to real people, not that I mind talking to real people. You shouldn't have to do that. Have you ever seen a drink with Cachaças as the base alcohol in some of these old bartender's guides? It sounds interesting, basically fermented and distilled sugar cane juice instead of fermenting and distilling the byproducts of sugar production that you do for rum. Let me know if you had an episode for that.
@GlenAndFriendsCooking
4 ай бұрын
I don’t want to start an online war… but Cachaça is essentially the same process / taste as Rhum Agricole produced on the French Caribbean islands. Cachaça doesn’t get mentioned in the old books (much like tequila/ mezcal) because it wasn’t really exported from Brazil. So any cocktail that call for Rhum / Rhum Agricole is a great place to sub in Cachaça.

Hang overs have nothing to do with the amount of alcohol you take in, and everything to do with the amount of water in your system. Its a painful form of severe dehydration, mostly of the brain. Start out well hydrated before drinking, and have a glass of water now and then through the day/evening/whatever, (or an extreme I've done, chug a liter before you crash for the night, ) And you will rarely if ever have any discomfort, let alone a hangover the day after. Medical science and common sense at work. Try it, it works.
