Music is Transcendant...13.32 time stamp “The most current philosophy of life is self-expressionism: “Let yourself go”; “Do whatever you please.” Any suggestion of restraining errant impulses is called a masochistic survival of the dark ages. The truth is that the only really self-expressive people in the world are in the insane asylum. They have absolutely no inhibitions, no conventions, and no codes. They are as self-expressive as hell, i.e., in complete disorder.” ― Fulton J. Un grande 'Bravo' a tutti!

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era. I wonder what would be like to hear this music for the first time. And then the chances to hear a live piece were so scarce since only Nobles and Courtisans were privileged to hear this music and maybe just once in a lifetime . So thinking again, today I can hear it all at home , and maybe I can wear a wig and heels and powder my nose once in a while . Delightful.

I'd sacrifice the time swap, though your proposal is one I have considered. The question in my mind is do I appreciate 17th and 18th century music more because I have heard the music of later eras? Is my "ear" more "educated"? I don't mean to think myself superior, just possibly a beneficiary of what has been developed since back then.

Agreed -- a brilliant interpretation, full of joy and delight; you can hear that these pieces have their origins in dances and vivacious parties.(Those convent girls knew a thing or two. I'd bet Father Vivaldi did, too.)This is absolutely how Vivaldi should be heard. And I can't thank you enough for promoting them here in a reasonably hifi bitrate. It makes a huge difference. Excellent review, as i absolutely adore vivaldis music and have as well studied his life, the musicologist Micheal Talbot has written a very authoritive account of vivaldis life and particularly his works, its interesting to note that many of his works are held in manchester as well as milan.

You have any idea what you are talking about? Those convent girls were deformed, handicapped, some scarred by diseases, dancing was something most couldn't do, some barely could walk... did you know that? Those girls owed their lives to the Pieta as most were cast away when babies, some were thrown in the canals and saved by citizen's passing by or rowing by. Lucky for them they were in Venice in any other city in Europe they would have died in the process of being discarded.

Vivaldi worked hard for what he achieved. While teaching at the convent school he originally had a bare majority of the board in his favor. Eventually they went against him, fired him. Got a new teacher. Been there, seen what professional jealousy is like. One year later he was reinstated, unanimously. Yes, I think it must have been obvious that no one else could accomplish this.

Note the intentional use of organ rather than harpsichord in continuo because both harpsichord and mandolin produce sound from the plucking of strings which makes their sound relatively similar, which is the last thing you want when mandolins are generally rather quiet instruments and harpsichords can overwhelm them.
