So the narrative (general, not from you all) that he’s a self-hating, hypocrite who just wants to keep other Black people from benefiting from this system dismisses his lived experiences which shaped his worldview on this issue and is totally without merit.

@@katsiamapoisoning786 I didn’t realize I was submitting my thoughts for to YT for grading... However, in response to your need to be pedantic, allow me to clarify. In this context there is a very real and cultural reason behind the use of the phrase “lived experience” vs “personal” (which obviously is simply your linguistic preference because, as you mentioned, they are ultimately the same). Also, “just experience” is too vague as there can be observational or vicarious experiences, for example. In contrast, “lived experience” is often used in reference to minority/marginalized populations because it is first and foremost, a reminder of our humanity and secondarily that our unique experiences are just as important. So, no… I couldn’t “just leave it at experiences.” But since we’re giving out “tips,” there are four purposes of language, none of which so was obstructed by my usage of “lived experience” that my actual messaging wasn’t conveyed… So maybe next time, consider scrolling past and resisting the urge to prove how smart you are by “correcting” a random YT comment ;-)

Question? How does someone know they got into a university based on affirmative action when it was never supposed to be discussed when entering a new student. Vivek is amazing
@tahneeeubanks1412
Жыл бұрын
Exactly the question I had!!! Like, did they get an acceptance letter saying "Due to recent Affirmative Action Legislation, you have now been accepted to (insert PWI name here) for the fall semester"? 🤔🤔🤔 Are there actually some people out there who truly believe they're beneficiaries of affirmative action who actually got in on their own merit????
@cpp1390
Жыл бұрын
@@tahneeeubanks1412 I know they don’t tell people, and I know they don’t keep track, so I know it’s not something based with real stats except for the stats that there was more black people enrolled in different universities from before legislation to now, that one lady showed talking bad about him right after this interview. But what I find funny about that is the increase is not looking at the growth of the black community, or how mixed race people were putting blk as there race when applying to get in to universities (Even wh people who were mostly wh identified as blk) part of that stat, than look at how many more schools have opened and so much more. So I think stats are to make a point to sway people but never really carry all the true information that creates that stat. I think if they actually kept track of who was enrolled and not based on affirmative action we would see a different story. We would see more racism than anything. As far as wether it helps a group or not, you can’t fight racism with racism. I’ve brought up before how every scholarship in existence has black people as the only race allowed to have specific scholarships and the rules are insane because it’s not required to have a high GPA (only needed 2.8-3.0) when majority people cannot step foot in to a university without a 3.5 or higher GPA otherwise you have to go to college first and than transfer to the university. But scholarships have specific qualifications and there is not 1 in existence that says only white people can apply. That said there is many more ways of benefits that I don’t think people realize , when you go in for a SBA loan they have special Benefits that are given to blk people, minority people, and in some occasions other races but you will never ever see 1 single loan app that says Caucasian. I can go on, so this whole racism is embedded into our system is because it is but it’s not effecting blk people it’s actually effecting poor to middle class Caucasian men. I think everybody should be given the Same exact chance and opportunity in life and backgrounds should not be the fault of others. Enrollment employees can’t be the key to allowing one down from an opportunity and opening it for another. The job people should be trained to do is look at the persons history in school, what did they do in school or extra curricular, what does their acceptance letter state about them and what they did or what they have to offer the future gens. We have missed the point to uplift people to do better, instead we are handing out rewards for effortless success or we say, ok you tried at least here’s a reward for effort. Look at the submarine that just imploded, why? Because he gave an A for effort and wanted people that didn’t work to hard or even had that knowledge in That background to do it but rather he wanted diverse, young, etc. when you watch the video it shows them using hand tools that weren’t automatic, insane! So people that do work hard for something won’t have those opportunities anymore and I think that sets a wrong precedent, this will tell people to be lazy and don’t try because you can get more out of laziness than reality of getting more out of showing effort, willingness, and hard work.

@@cpp1390 wow, you said a mouthful! Definitely food for thought. And I agree that stats will/can never show the full picture. I'm just tired and disturbed at the thought of anyone lowering standards for scholarships instead of rewarding the ones who DO fit the needed criteria..

At the college in my Californian town a young indian man i was dating at the time admitted to me that everyone in his community knew a guy who worked at admissions at the college so they would get this guy to approve them to the college and then they would use that as a way to get a visa for school and then while here work on getting dual citizenship or a work visa for after school. And they were doing this for hundreds of families. It just blew my mind. So while a lot of people say asians/indians aren't benefited by affirmative action, don't worry they are still getting into the schools.

Let's stop this BS here... first of all India does not allow people to have dual citizenship. knowing some one in the admission will not grant you visa to travel. and if an institution has too many admissions without good TOEFL/GRE/GMAT scores, the school will be blacklisted.... blah blah

Affirmative action is racist towards not only Asian and white students, but also towards the black and brown community in general. Embedded in affirmative action is the idea black and brown people are entirely lesser and incapable of competing with other races. They push the idea that past setbacks still persist today and set black/brown people back. If this is true, we should look at other factors completely separated from race: income, education, upbringing, etc. The idea all black/brown people are disadvantaged is the definition of racist!

I look forward to voting for Vivek in the future. I would love to see him as our next vice president, then President for eight years after that. I would probably vote for him now, but I'm not sure he has enough name recognition to win the primary and we definitely need to put up a candidate that can beat Biden or whoever the Dems run if one of the old man's fall is fatal. Ramaswamy is young enough to run for the top job in a few years when everyone knows him, his intelligence, his integrity, and his unflappability like those of us who have watched him face these fools that are trying to take him down. As far as Joy Reid, if she was as good in high school as she says, she is doing herself and her black and brown classmates who also excelled academically a great disservice to say she and they only got in because of affirmative action. Her merits should have qualified her, if she had applied. I consider it a victim mentality to say she only got in because the school sought her out. I have no idea how old she is, but I think you young men live and act with much more self-accountabiliy in your 20s than she does. Keep up the good work!
