He does such a good job matching the styles of those he parodies, and some of those artists, like Michael Jackson and James Brown, even helped him out. the thing with Weird Al Yankvic is that he has this strange obession with germs and food, so almost all his parodies are food or germ related. sometimes both. he also loves to teach people things. like.. one song is called "word crimes", it is very informative if you aren't a naitive english speaker. Grammar is important. so yeah, almost all if not all of his parodies are informative, they teach you things. another song is about Hernias and in that song you learn about all the different types of hernias you can get lol. he's been doing these parodies ow for 4 decades, he started in the 80's, it's amazing. you should check out some of his other stuff. he does Lady Gaga too

As far as a I know, you are the only one reacting to Weird Al. I highly recommend his song Hardware Store. His diction and enunciation is impeccable. Someone once told me about a breathing technique where a singer can breathe in through their nose, cycle it through their lungs, and sing out of their mouth all at once, allowing them to sing essentially as long as they want. Is this true? If so, Weird Al may do this in Hardware Store.

Back in the 80s, Weird Al was HUGE in geek circles and has always been. Seriously, it's hard to overstate how popular he was among the geek crowd. Hell yeah. in the late 70's or early 80's, I would listen to the Dr. Demento show on the radio every week and that's where I first heard Weird Al. Loved him from the first song I heard. The thing to keep in mind is while that Al is huge in the USA, that is pretty much the only place (and judging by his world tour locations also Canada). Sure, he has his fans in other countries as well, probably a few more in countries where English is either primary or a common second language (Canada, UK...). But people outside the US are far less likely to have heard of him, especially since his real boom (from my understanding) was the 80s and 90s. Not implying that he's not doing extremely well still of course, but that's when he had his own show and movie and all that.

Fun bit of "Weird Al" trivia: Weird Al is one of only _5_ artists to have 4 Billboard Top 40 hits across 4 decades (the others being Kenny G, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and U2). That's at least one top 40 hit in each of the '80s, '90s, '00s, and '10s. Although arguably, Kenny G and Michael Jackson snuck in on technicalities (their music being included in a modern track via sample).

To which Al replied about how it was going to be about how nobody could understand their lyrics. Glad you discovered Weird Al. I have been listening to him fir nearly 40 years now. He IS the KING of parody songs but he also has an immense amount of talent too. Please, Please, Please react to more of his stuff. Even go to his channel and check him out fir yerself. Some classics are: FAT EAT IT LIKE A SURGEON AMISH PARADISE And this will just wet yer appetite fir more. He thinks of all the details and angles when doing a song. Michael Jackson was a massive fan of his and even helped him out with sets and props. #WeirdAl #BethRoars #bethroars

I find it interesting that Mark Mothersbaugh hates Al because he wrote the quintessential Devo song Dare to be stupid

Weird Al is probably one of the greatest songwriters in history, and having had the pleasure of seeing him live in Glasgow a few years ago, I can confirm he and his band are some of the greatest showmen too. Also worthy of note is that his band has been pretty-much the same throughout his career - he joked that the keyboard player was "The new guy", as he ONLY joined in 1991. I heartily endorse you do a reaction to his song Albuquerque from the Running with Scissors album. There's no official video, but various folks have uploaded it to KZitem, including a few live renditions

Hey Beth, he's barely scratched the surface of his genius. You don't have to listen to him all but just Google his catalog. It will blow your mind. that was fun You're awesome raaaaaaar❤️💚☘️

Weird Al is the OG that hundreds or thousands of KZitemrs have attempted to emulate. Everybody knows his comedy chops, but he's actually a versatile singer as well, as he demonstrates across a wide variety of pop/rock/rap/showtunes/younameit musical genres. Well done Beth!

So fun to see someone discover "Weird Al" for the first time. "Weird Al" will be your deepest and most fun rabbit hole journey. Put all his videos on post-it notes and stick them to your wall. Then blindfold yourself and throw a dart. Guaranteed you'll hit a great song, whether it's a parody or original (of which he has many).

Actually, you’re spot on. He IS a genius. He started kindergarten a year early, skipped second grade and graduated valedictorian at 16.
