I realize that the audio on this video is pretty bad. I'm not 100% certain why. The original recording in Reaper does not have the "noise". It seems to have been altered when uploading to KZitem.

Remember that the #1 thing about "input fx" here is that literally everything you use is POST AD Conversion. While you can do this and apply compression to an input source before it hits the track, any and all clipping pre-converter will transfer through these FX and WILL be part of your recorded track. This is not avoidable due to the FX being POST conversion. Depending on the process you use, there may or may not be any benefit to this. If anything, it's a cool way to commit to a decision and "tone" to help you save some time later in your mix. Another thing to watch for is how the bandwidth of your EQ filters can actually produce a boost at the filter frequency of an EQ cut. This is due to phase shift etc. at said filter frequency. If you take care to gain stage in the compression and then make a drastic EQ cut, it is possible to cause the source signal to clip. If this happens, just reduce the signal feeding the input side of the EQ. Another great video Marshall.

Great advise! I'm using Reaper v6.09 and my tracks don't have the option for "FX in" on the track as yours does. I would love to toy with this technique. Do you know how to access that feature?
@MarshallSetUps
3 жыл бұрын
Forgive the delay in my response. The option is available. You should use the Track Themes window to tell Reaper to show the input FX option on all tracks. You problem is an issue with your Them, or Track Manager in Reaper. Check those things out.

Thank you SS7KakaCam. Reatune requires a bit of music theory knowledge. In particular, knowing the mode of a tune you're recording. I am educated in music theory, so Reatune is easy for me. It's a very good pitch correcting VST. I may take you up on your challenge my friend.

I recommend not using ReaTune until after your vocals are tracked. Having it turned on will absolutely create latency. Use Reatune to subtly fix small incorrect pitch moments. If you're using it as the "Cher" effect, then try to use it while recording. Otherwise, do your best to record a killer vocal take that doesn't need Reatune. Perfection is highly overrated 🤘

If you're using Reaper......... When you select Render in the Render window that opens select MP3 (encoder by LAME project) as the format. I usually set the bit rate no lower than 192 kbps. (The format option is about 2/3 the way down the Render to File window). If you'd like to Render an mp3 and a wav (or other format) select that format as "Secondary output format". I hope this helps.

If you are able to hear these settings when monitoring in Reaper, you simply use whatever monitoring output you're using on your audio interface and send it to your JBL one pro. ie: headphone output, or speaker output from your audio interface. I hope this helps.

@@MarshallSetUps Can you explain how to use the ReaDelay and ReaPitch for vocals? I’ve been trying to understand it for two years now. The few videos I’ve come across go way too fast and talk like the audience are all rocket scientists. It’s been very frustrating. I record a lot of metal vocals (not the growling kind) that often has pronounced delay effects and echoes. I can’t ever get a slap back delay that sounds good and I can’t ever get echos that fit the music. I don’t understand all the stuff in the ReaDelay screen other than the Wet and Dry sliders. Same thing with ReaPitch. Supposedly you can make vocal harmonies with that thing but I’ve never been able to. I don’t anything about how that’s supposed to work. And is there a way to hear how your vocals sound with the fx while your recording without all that latency? I have a usb mixer for an interface. When I’ve tried to enable the monitoring on the track there so much latency it’s impossible to record. Thanks!
