The more I listen to VAs the more it feels like they could use some roleplaying where they could vent their creativity and use voices they never get to use. It'd be a bitch to schedule but boy would it be great to GM for them. Or any improv, really. It'd be half-entertaining, half-therapeutic, and charity work for sure.

VOICE OVER and GRAPHICSVOICE OVER:I consider this the biggest mistake the video game industry is currently making. A voice and the meanings that it expresses are connected deeply with the setting of a video game. A planet, the future, the past, a dangerous situation, a tense moment, a fighting moment, an idyllic place, a dark medieval castle, a primitive jungle etc so MUST be expressed in the tone of the voice and meaning expressed. It is that simple. There is nothing more ugly (and this happens almost all the time nowadays) to hear a voice completely disconnected with the mood of a place or a situation and even worse expressing meanings not in tune with the setting. A lot of money is spent to recruit voice over professionals but then their talent is badly directed. They all sound the same:very controlled voices that read from a script. If the character of a game is a knight, the voice over actors cannot speak like modern people. The worlds of the script has to be really in tune with the setting and nowadays this rarely happens, on the countrary, the dialogues are heavily based on jokes as if everything could be expressed by jokes, which is absurde. A knight will speak with words that are different from the words we would use nowadays. During a fight, you cannot hear a voice that sounds like the character is drinking a coffee sunday morning!!!! Really, the game industry has to rethink about the sound, the voice over, recruit people from the streets that have a very unique voice not the usual ''I heard this voice 1 million times''. Get people with character with a strange life as their voice will reflect his\her own life!. Don't recruit professionals that have a boring life as it will reflect heavily on the character of the game making him\her boring! Invest in reserching on how to write a dialogue according to the setting: a primitive man won't talk like a modern man, you have to hear from his voice and the the concept he expresses that he comes from the past!!!GRAPHICS Think of a painting; are you interested in a realistic painting or is it far more interesting a painting that is the interpretation of life of an artist? So why are we running to follow the industry that chase realism? Isn't it better to have graphics that reflect the vision of the artist\game developer? It is just a simple question. I hope my thoughts are making you thinking at least a little bit.
