Tesla may be priced like a luxury car and try to play in that market but they are far from a luxury car, just on cabin noise alone. What Tesla has is the best charging network (in the US). Looks like VW is getting their act together. Three different KZitemrs who adopted ID.4s (Olsen Family Travels, OSR Garage, & E for Electric) all ended up dumping their ID.4s for other EVs. It seems like from your review, there is a great deal more deliberation in execution and they are going to be joining the market during a time where the likes of Volvo, GM, and Hyundai Group are all looking to take a piece of the Tesla pie. I wish them well and would actually not mind getting one if we could justify another purchase (which we can't). There are so many good EVs coming out. The ID.4 is a great car, hardware wise it’s well built, very comfortable, spacious and has good range. The issue was the software with the 2021s which I know those KZitemrs cars had, personally I think E for Electric in particular was really overly dramatic about the whole thing to get more clicks, he’s done this in the past with other companies like Tesla. The 2022 and 2023 models with software 3.1 are a lot better, and eventually 2021s got this update but it took VW a bit too long imo. But now that the software is pretty good the rest of the car can really shine, it was always a good car hardware wise, and with improvements in 2023 with a faster charging battery that can go up to 170kW instead of 135kW, I think it’s a great overall EV that gets a bit too much hate because of its rocky launch.

Having almost NEVER used the power rear windows in a vehicle from the driver's seat, I'm one of the weird ones that actually appreciate the deletion of two switches I'd rarely ever use in our 2021 RWD ID4. I set the HVAC to "AUTO" and haven't touched it since so not having the capacitive temperature sliders backlit was never an issue either. We really love our V-dub but if we do any trips further than 100 miles at a stretch, we take the Tesla, the charging experience with NACS is just that much better. Before its release here in the US, I really hope VW finally caves in and adopts NACS. Otherwise, it's just not going to do as well. Great video! Thank you!

I agree. Two button is not an issue at all for me. What is an issue is no dedicated UNLOCK button like EVERY other vehicle has. The door unlocking system is problematic for me when it comes to wanting to put something in the back seat as I get in the car and that I now have to be chivalrous and always open my wife’s door for her otherwise she stands there (in the rain) while I fiddle around trying to unlock both my and her door from my side. I think VW, owning the CSS laddened Electrify America network, will be challenged to either abandon their network or have to recable every charger. Why is NACS better than CSS anyway other than it gives you access to the Supercharger network?

@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 have you actually been in one? I have. The materials are hyper cheap and center console feels like Chinese plastic toys. The quality thing is a repeated urban legend, but frankly VW really dropped the ball on the MEB models with materials and build. Skoda versions are way better.

I disagree with you completely. Why are you trying to push Volkswagen? That's 35 miles in 20 minutes, That is very low and time conhuman.. I filled my car model 3 Tesla in a 15 to 20 minute max from 20% to 85%. Why haven't you made that comment? VW has a problem. Charging .

Don’t blame VW. It’s VW and every other EV except the Ioniq 5 (and other 800v platforms) that has that level of charging. Tesla stands out on its own when it comes to charging, greatly due to the network as well as the car, across the EV brands but you have to own a Tesla to get that charging, and that’s a bigger trade-off than charging.
@Harrythehun

@@tommason8104 I really want to highlight the difference between value and price. The value to own a Tesla is soo much greater and higher for a Tesla than a another car brand. My Tesla is outstanding regarding user experience during road trips, charging, car camping, app usage and control, storage and space, customisation and safety. But those things may not matter for everyone.

Well I disagree again with you - he is reporting independent - also there is thing how the car makes you feel while driving - the Tesla is leaving me cold, its just an appliance with one screen inside, the interior is IKEA - no existing, the ID.7 does 10-80% in 28min or less - which means up to 612 km range WLTP, what do you mean 35 miles in 20 minutes? If you are shopping for a Tesla you would not cross shop with an ID.7 - the M3 is far too small and the Model Y is a SUV.

I'm looking forward to charging scaling up for quick charge cells in the near future. An Amprius 6 minute 0-80% cell battery with 80kwh of capacity will need something like a 1mw charger to meet the average 640kw rate.

I always have to laugh when people complain about having to push a button twice to roll up/down rear windows. Most of my life windows were operated manually with a hand crank, so forget about rolling rear windows while driving, or even the right side front window. 😀

In the US, an EV without NACS / Tesla network is a non-starter for a road trip car. VW is going to have to swallow their pride.

Actually which connectors you choose is irrelevant. It s about getting the best charging hardware. EA went with ABB that proved to be unreliable or at least some of their product do. In Europe the best providers have switched from ABB to other better brands like Trituim, Alpintronic, Kempower. But not least the service on those devices are also better in Europe at least for the well known provider because most of those devices being built in Europe. The only advantage of NACS for american context is the connector being slimmer actually.

@@jonpetter8921You don't seem to be following the news from the US very closely. The problems with the CCS charging network extend far beyond ABB and beyond Electrify America. I do believe that eventually, the problems can be worked out. But for the next four years at least, lack of access to the Supercharger network would seriously impact VW sales.

I found it mir relaxing not always have to press my feed down and I’m way better in adjusting the rate of recuperation by using the brake.
