Nice try, saying that VW ‘has noticed the pricing situation’ …. You have to be kidding me. They NOTICED the prices ?!?! Buddy, they CREATED the pricing situation. In my 55 years on this planet, I have owned 5 German cars (2 Golf GTi’s, 2 Audi’s and a BMW 320d). The German legacy automakers in particular have been rap**g the SA consumer for years. Why ? Because we’re such brand-loyal idiots (or brand snobs), that we’ll pay anything they ask. We’re as much to blame, but let’s not pretend the automakers are trying to help us. After I got off the German pricing train, my last 2 cars have been Mazdas, but Japanese prices are also not exactly cheap, simply because they could still increase their prices but keep them below the astronomical German prices. At this rate, I can see myself getting a Haval or Chery when it comes time to replace my CX-5.

Couldn't agree more. I have always had German cars and this year changed to a Mahindra Scorpio-N and I can honestly tell you I have never been happier in my life. I went to Toyota, honestly boring and inadequately engineered with a useless sun visor, especially when the sun shines from your right as a driver. Suspect traction control at high speeds and cross winds. At 220 k with regular service as the vw but no risking my family getting stuck on the freeway next to grass as tall as me, and I am 1,89 m tall. Vw took me heaven, to hell and to common sense. Local is lekka is always the way to go. Nothing wrong with import cars as long as you buy them in the country where they are manufactured. Remember there they are only appliances that you never keep longer than 5 years before government law forces you to scrap it and replace it with a new one. If you still think it is wise to buy an import do your homework and see how long that car can stay on the road in the country where it is manufactured then you'll know how long it is intended to be on the road. Cars built in South Africa are built to be used in South Africa and to keep going till everyone in society had their chance behind the wheel, from rich to poor, and I don't think some of the imports are built with that in mind, especially those from a certain country.
