For myself I prefer the W-10 wah. Reason being that it really changed my tone in many ways. It toe down after a boost gave me a perfect blues tone. Mid way gave me a muddy distortion feel. Low gave me a weird fuzz vibe. And then the actual wah at work gave me amazing tones. The boost knob can help the volume jump for effect, or be low for beginners for those without as much gear. Overall, it has more diversity for the many different styles I play from jazz at school, worship at church, and at home practice for multiple styles

Normaly I prefer simple pedals, so the Vox should be my choice. But I have got an Ibanez weeping demon wha and I like it a lot. It is very adjustable and you have a mode that it kicks immidiately in when you step on it and it turn off if you step off. You do not need to step on a knob. That works good for me.

It's very humid here in the tropics and I got fed up with the pot in my wah needing to be replaced all the time. They failed literally within a year, even expensive replacements. I now have an AMT Japanese Girl wah, which is the size of a Boss pedal and is optical. It's not the same as a traditional wah, but for me it does the job and it also has selectable voicings, which make it sound more synth like or vocal like (I even managed to do a convincing talkbox sound with it on New Year's Eve when we played "Livin' on a Prayer") !!! Anyway I think I preferred the Vox in this video.

My JP rig is a Chibson with jonseyblues custom wound TTop/PAF pups & push pull 21 tone harness plus old school germanium boost fx. Most youngsters don't want to get into that stuff when you can emulate everything through a 'puter of some description + software like that provided by the ZOOM. But a wah pedal needs to be physical.

Fun fact, the Wah pedal was originally designed for the electric trumpet (hence the Clyde McCoy naming, he was a popular trumpeter at the time). As the trumpets were miked they couldn't use a plunger mute so the wah was invented to replicate the effect.

I've had a Crybaby for about 16 years or so. It's had 3 different switches and 2 pots in that time. It makes a loud bang through the amp whenever I turn it on, and now the switch is failing again on it... I think it may be time to replace. 😂 Only thing that makes me hesitate to get the Vox is I've read about it sucking treble while disengaged. I had the same issue with the Crybaby and had a true bypass mod done to fix it (that's what introduced the bang noise when I engage it)... Although that said, back then I didn't have a pedal board, and I was just plugging pedals in when I needed them, so the tone suck was really noticeable whenever the wah was in the signal chain vs without. Might not be so much of an issue if it's permanently part of the signal chain, and EQ'd to compensate.

Out of the two, the Vox sounded better. But, as far as my preferences go, I went with a Dunlop "Crybaby From Hell" from 2002 until a week ago. I used it more as a tonal filter kind of thing, rather than the "wacka wacka wacka" type of stuff. It would get a great "groany" sort of sound on its lowest end and when dialed in just right with the knobs on the sides, I could go from that to a classic "Swedish" Death Metal type of tone. But, as time has gone on, I was using it less and less. It was at the point where I was just using it as a splitter and for a very light bit of clean tonal variation. Eventually, I decided to dig out my old Ibanez DE7 delay and use that as the "splitter" with a tiny bit of slapback delay. The wah has been sold and should be in the hands of its new owner today. I'm one of those people that as soon as a piece of gear falls out of favor, it's out the door. I can't stand seeing gear going to waste. So, off ye go.

I think I have some kind of OCD because the jumble of cables and mismatching pedals mildly irritate me. So I plan to get a helix FX in the next few months, you sold me on that with how great your sounding these days. I had mixed feelings about the slight mid/low boost when you compared it to your pedalboard. But the last few weeks it's sounded phenomenal.

Same problem here mate, I can get a Vox and the Ibanez with a 50€ difference, but still can't decide what to go for.

Does it do that wah sound when you turn it on I mean when it makes that wah noise without playing any string.
