Great video as always. I've replaced a whole lot of front end stuff, but there's still unruly vibrations coming from small bumps and making the interior shudder like an old Peugeot. The only bush I haven't replaced (which looks perfectly fine visually) is the front two piece bush on the front control arm. The rear bush on the front control arm has also been replaced. Looking at your video, it does seem like control arm goes a LONG way in absorbing vibrations. Would that be correct or should I be looking elsewhere? My 124 is a 300e 4matic btw which has very different looking components up front, but functionally the same.

SpinningVinyl thankyou, I hope I can keep up with your high standards - everything I do is a learning experience for me too so some of my (especially older) videos may not be up to todays standards. Generally I am very methodical and thorough with what i do for a living so it translates onto playing with w124’s too

What brand are your control arms? Iam replacing LCAs on my 124 now i have lemforder CAs I believe my pinch bolt is already in the correct orientation, with the notch facing inboard. I also noticed that you didn’t paint match the eccentric bolts but just used another w124 as reference that worked out ok? Great videos keep up the good work!

I will have the car aligned professionaly once its at full weight - any alignment adjustments by me will only be temporary and good enough only for that drive to the shop. I used the miele kit or how ever its spelled. I would have prefered the lemforder but at the time (on both cars) the shipping was outragious for the very same kit - perhaps its heavier. Now they are available locally so i'd probably use lemforder in future but having said that i've still not had any issues with the kit on my blueblack car so they seem ok.

Christian Wil'Chr i really need a small tripod for these in the wheel arch shots as its quite difficult getting the camera to sit anywhere suitable or alternatively get something to hold my phone in an appropriate manner. What i’m doing is less than ideal to say the least.

MMWA For lower (near ground) camera takes, you should buy those flexible tripods that go for around $20. The support legs can be bent in almost any direction allowing you to position the camera into the desired position. You do have to bare in mind the weight of the camera to avoid it tipping over. In any case, these flexible legs make it possible to 'wrap' the thing around something without falling off, making for the perfect camera angle.

My Febi-Bilstein control arm ball joint didn't fit the knuckle. Jacking and hammering it didn't do the trick. I have to remove the glue and used hammer and screw driver to make the openning bigger. It took me several hours to make that decision. I also had a terrible time removing the spring compressor. I had to reposition the plates 3x because the plates get stuck and loosening the the spring compressor bar with my ratchet keeps hitting the control arm which stops the ratchet from turning. I also had to jack it up and down in the process to get it loosen. Also did you have a self-leveling system suspension in the rear? Did you need to replace it? I got a 1993 300TE Wagon. Thanks

Awesome stuff MMWA. I am currently replacing my lower front control arms. Was there a particular order you tightened the eccentric bolts, or while the sway bar was attached or detached? Want to make sure I get it right - any info is helpful. Your work inspired me to attempt it!

The front hex-head-screw of the lower-control-arm is mounted the wrong way. In order to protect the thread the nut needs to be on the rear end (same with all screws i.e. the exhaust). Here in Germany you will not pass inspection this way.

cant say that i have. I do know that I need to swap out the shock absorbers on this project at some stage as they aren’t correct for a lowered car. I never intended to lower it when I bought them then changed my mind when i found decent wheels for sale

I got Febi-Bilstein control arm too...but did you notice the placement of the lower end of the coil spring where it sits is different from the left and right. The driver side spring slot/stopper is on the lower end and passenger side spring slot/stopper is on the top end. Do you know why?

I did notice this and to be honest have no idea why its like this. Maybe its the angle the springs flex out on has something to do with it

I abselutely love your videos, they are my go to for any work I need to do on my 1995 W124 wagon whether I do it myself or take it in to a mechanic. I'm about to do front suspension and I can't find information on how many burls to take for the spring coil pads. I've ordered the two and three burl pads since they are cheap but would hate if I had to go more or less than that. If you or anyone out there knows what the factory spec was it would be very much appreciated. Thank you for all the great videos!

great video do you not use lock tite or torque these bolts to the correct torque? I'd be worried some of them would come loose
@MMWA-DAVE
4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely you should replace the bolts at the knuckle (they come with new thread locker already applied) or at the very least clean and apply new thread locker. the struts come with all new bolts already. The bearing kits also come with new caliper bolts already applied with locker too. I have only reused a few bolts.

Hi mate, did you have to get aftermarket shocks to fit those springs? Sorry for bad english
@MMWA-DAVE

I think you should get shorter travel springs - i already had stock standard new bilstein shocks on hand so used those. i fully expect them to not last life due to being compressed so far at all times though.

@@kwittnebel I'm taking the H&Rs off my 606 powered S124 too. I did all the research and my car is specifically listed on H&R's spec sheet, but the car dropped about double what it was meant to..I've changed from the factory 1 bump to 4 bump pads and it's still rubbing. I have some Sachs springs on their way to me from Germany and hoping they're going to get the car to a sensible height.

@@chillstar check out boosted garage or whatever they are called with the 240z 606. He has a 124 in there with some really interesting rear springs. It is a sedan, but it must be some sort of solid thing they bolt into the spring perch with a big threaded tube that the actual spring rides on. Allows adjusting ride height. Probably not cheap, but maybe not too expensive either.
