I must tell that your travel videos are captivating and attention-holding, even if the scenery is snowy and dreary like the arctic circle route.

Tornis Finland has a bridge to Sweden, According to Streetview , the tracks are dual gauge on the bridge but not electrified. Further west inside of Sweden, single gauge and electrified. If dual-gauge, it would also require the overhead be dual voltage and freight locos also be dual gauge. Simpler to use diesel (but not perfect).

I think they were specially built for Finland 1524 mm railway and wagon outside dimensions are wider as well . I know when Siemens build Sapsan speed trains for Russian gauge ( 1520 mm ), German engineers were very happy that they were allowed to build train much wider that their usual Siemens Velaro train.Wider train means more space in it and more stable train . In Russian version Sapsan is 3265 mm wide, wider than usual German Siemens Velaro. In Estonia specially for Estonia built Stadler Flirt train is even wider outside ( 3500 mm ), but standard gauge Flirt is only 2880 mm wide . Wide gauge means more space between tracks as well , which means engineers can build wider trains. I doubt very much this Arctic train built specially for 1524 mm gauge could run on standard gauge even if you put standard gauge wheels on it. Train itself is too wide for standard gauge railway .

The rail gauge and the allowed outside dimensions in Finland are the same as the Russian standard. All the cars and the Sr2 are made in Finland, the latter under license.

Track gauge is not directly correlated to loading gauge. The Swedish railway network (which uses standard gauge) allows for a bigger loading gauge than in continental Europe with a maximum width of 3.4 metres. The Iberian gauge network in Spain and Portugal is even wider than Russian gauge at 1676 mm (24 cm wider than standard gauge) but the loading gauge is about the same at 3.44 wide. Height is also a factor, of course. The Russian loading gauge which Finland also uses allows for a maxium height of 5.3 m in the middle and 4.37 m on the sides which allows for such roomy double decker trains.

@@Rebasepoiss But Russian and Ukrainian built international passenger cars are much narrower than same kind of passenger cars for Ukraine and Russia Gabarit RIC for both 1435 and 1520 mm Railways Ширина вагона, мм 2 824 Same kind on coupe car for domestic lines Ширина вагона, мм 3 021 There is reason why they build narrower cars for European railways, for international trains . They obviously cant use domestic cars in Poland, Germany, France etc .and on other 1435 mm gauge lines and stations. Ukraine still has international train lines, Russian RIC dimension cars traveled even to Paris until covid stopped it and nowadays Russia does not have train lines to Western Europe for obvious reason. Nowadays RIC dimension cars travel between Moscow and St.Petersburg, they are Siemens production and are considered more comfortable, more silent than other Tver plant cars. Obviously twice as expensive too, but unfortunately there are less room inside RIC dimension cars.
