tech tip.from experience when the leak is obvious hook up to a well caped port and check for leaks when flat, saves time.and if run cap is bad it will start, but will pull high amps and over heat compressor.thanks for sharing.

Little bit of everything, or maybe it’s because Trenton’s don’t break down much 😂

The start capacitor died WHILE I WAS THERE” So it was getting its power but couldn’t start.

I’m sorry once again .. your giving new techs bad ideas .. if u come across any system that low on refrigerant.. just pull up a nitrogen tank .. find the leak make the repair and charge .. what ur doing is showing these new techs shortcuts..

I explained the factors. What I was doing was getting their 6k worth of food back down to temp before it became “waste”. That box was 40 degrees before I got there 2 hours later. The “risk” here was wasting the Freon if it all leaked out or the leak wasn’t somewhere that could be isolated. Given my situation of being the person able to make that decision and eat the cost of the Freon I took that risk in the name of expediency. Your point is absolutely valid and I hope you heard the battle in my words as I considered which way to go. The correct thing would have been to pressurize, repair, vacuum, then charge, which would have taken another hour and a half that they didn’t have. Had it been an ac unit and not the lifeblood of the restaurant I would have gone that way. PSA. Don’t do it my way. I’m ok with that asterisk 😎 and so was my customer

What you provide is valuable for new techs and I’m not taking that away from you .. and a little trick of the trade is before adding nitrogen put in a little oz of r22 .. leak defector loves 22 lol..

I appreciate the kind words, but speaking of bad advice and shortcuts… NEVER put a different refrigerant into a system than it is. R22 uses mineral oil R404a use POE oil. You’ll never get the mineral oil out of the system once you inject it with the 22. PSA #2. Never mix refrigerants kids, no matter what the internet tells you is ok 😎. Love ya zelalem and love the dialogue.

@@restaurantrepairs well I thought you might say that .. finding leak is alway difficult in our field .. I was not saying put Lb of r22 .. what I said was put may be 1 oz or 2 oz.. add nitrogen.. you are no way introducing new refrigerant into the system . What that little r22 will do is mix with the nitrogen and make it easy to find leaks .. I’m sure you will try this one day and won’t probably won’t Mention it .. when it works so well .. have an amazing day ..

Your very correct about sniffers finding R22 much easier, to me expecting younglings to understand when it’s ok to add a different refrigerant and when it’s not is asking for trouble. Somebody gonna add the wrong gas not paying attention and then have a bigger problem. So it’s a straight no no for me. I really do completely get it tho. And I DO love other perspectives. I’m not great, just willing to sure what I learned already and given me opportunity to learn from other folks like you new things. Blessings
