In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 5 mile circular walk from the town of Beaminster which is located 6 miles North of Bridport. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car at the “Pay & Display” Yarn Barton Car Park & started off with a wander around the town.
At one time, in the early 19th century, the town had 17 pubs (most have closed) and I took the opportunity of trying to identify the buildings today.
After a visit to the Church of St Mary (which has a quite magnificent tower), I headed North out of the town. My route took me uphill past Whatley Pond and over the River Brit to Meerhay Manor and then on again - joining a section of the Wessex Ridgeway.
At the top of the ridge, at Buckham Down, I headed East to enjoy some stunning views over to the South.
Eventually I dropped down off the ridge at Lake House Farm - having now joined a section of The Hardy Way.
I returned to Beaminster, approaching from the East, past Beaminster Manor.
My final destination was the Red Lion pub in the centre of the town.
