Everyone knows that we do things quite differently at Wan Kam Leung Practical Wing Chun compared to others. Hence, also why we have always been consistent by saying that we are a MODIFIED system, modified to make it apt to the contemporary combat art situations. The modification to what has become 實用詠春 (practical wing Chun) was granted by Sigung Wong Shun Leung and people may agree or disagree, that’s fine. All martial arts have evolved, so why wouldn’t this be the case for Wing Chun? Sprinting techniques have evolved, swimming techniques have evolved,… so why would this be different for Wing Chun.
Many argue that the Wing Chun concepts are flawless. The concept of sprinting is to move one leg followed by the other as fast as possible. But still sprinting techniques have evolved.
In this fragment, Sifu explains why WKL PWC sees the execution of the Bong Sau technique differently because of structure, energy lines and recovery of defense lines. The position of elbow compared to wrist and arm (angles) is extremely important, likewise is the interaction with the joints (body mechanics). Energy is a very peculiar phenomenon as mostly people are not aware of the repercussions it has on the overall body alignment. When you look slightly down during chisao, unconsciously your energy is directed downwards.
If elbow energy is extremely important, inherently it means that a bong sao (which is a transition technique) with a higher elbow requires far more efforts to travel back down to re-establish the strongest structure than when the elbow is already relatively pointed downwards 😁
Then again, we are not here to convince people. We just promote our style like anyone else 😁
