It's crazy how good Steve Zahn is in this. Bad Ape is for sure the MVP of "War". He enters the movie so late and yet, you connect with him immediately. Steve Zahn plays him so earnestly and with such vulnerability! It's what I remember the most about seeing this movie, for sure.

Very true, at 1st you're annoyed by him (I wasn't) but the momet he meets Caesar & his crew & goes into his backstory of his life & how he learned to speak we began to connect & sympathize with him.

Let’s give Matt Reeves the props he deserves. He’s one of the ones to watch this generation. Put him up there with the Tarantinos of the world. This is one of my favourite trilogies ever.

I think Tarantino is so unique that you can't really compare him to other directors. Reeves is great though in his own right. These guys should do Tarantino in Review. He only has 9 movies.

My fav of the trilogy. Went to see this with my mom as she’s a huge fan of the series, and we both sat through the credits crying our eyes out. Then she goes and spoils the ending to one of the workers by accident cause she thinks he saw it already lol.

This trilogy is one of those gems that actually worked out and arguably got better with each installment. I don’t think I’ve been as satisfied with a trilogy besides maybe with the recent “Home” trilogy of Spider-Man. But this wasn’t Disney/Marvel. Even something like the importance of Koba as a character from the first to the third is something those kind of bigger studio movies can’t pull off. Looking forward to the Batman although the runtime is a little off putting. I’m hoping they’re not trying to squeeze too much into one movie.

Bad ape is another example on how good the writing is for these characters. Caesars story arc is one of the best in cinematic history. Side note: The score when the humans infiltrated the Ape cave was fucking amazing.

I know I’m two years late, but I feel like the gang here doesn’t know that an oasis is just a geological description. It means a fertile area in an arid region. Not a connotation of paradise, bountiful resources, or anything that would suggest the apes are looking for anything other than a literal different place than their current home. Otherwise amazing breakdown as usual!!

I agree with Andy about the ending. I think the film should end right as Caesar closes his eyes for the last time. The slow fall, awkward fade, and chimp reactions feel unnecessary and for me actually zap a bit of the emotion. I also like how it would have worked with the first and last shots of dawn which focused so intensely on Caesers eyes.

I highly recommend the two graphic novels of these films, the Caesar Trilogy. There is the graphic novel comic run that takes place between RISE & DAWN which is great, but the one set in between DAWN & WAR is fantastic. That one gives more depth to Woody Harrelson's colonel character & how insanely dangerous he is. And we see Bad Ape's backstory which is incredible. Just a couple pieces of supplemental reading material to go with this amazing trilogy. Those and the novelization called Caesar's Story that is the novelization of the trilogy plus extra backstory that explains backstories on all the feature apes plus some side apes like Winter & Spear. My recommendations coming from a fan of the Apes since I was 5.

For anyone that loves this trilogy, I HIGHLY recommend watching StoryStreet's trilogy of video analyses on each film... They're a lengthy endeavor, but they're super interesting and they do a great job of explaining why the story of this trilogy feels so satisfying and transcendent. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qn6Yuo2Dn5uakpw kzitem.info/news/bejne/1q57q4OGrGJ5iKA kzitem.info/news/bejne/26yAm4Fsiat1hGU
