We were scheduled to begin our Appalachian Trail New Jersey Section 1 hike on this day, but a forecast for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon forced us to postpone it for another week. Ro was off teaching her Jazzercise class, so I enlisted a couple of our OAF Hiker friends Tadd & Erik to join me in pounding out some miles on the Delaware & Raritan Feeder Canal to warm up for the AT. Also known as the “towpath”, there are two sections. The feeder canal runs 30 miles from Frenchtown to Trenton, NJ and the main canal runs another 35 miles from Trenton to New Brunswick, NJ. The path is flat cinders, rated as easy and with plentiful parking areas all along it, just about anyone can get out there and enjoy it. On this day we did about 8 miles from Fireman’s Eddy to Scudders Falls. Next week AT NJ Section 1 rain or shine!
