Nice video, how do you get by the vacuum lines. do you have to cap them or what?

I like your video. Nice how-to. Just don't agree with your comments in the beginning. I have a 16 year old F250 that still has the stock locking hubs. They work great. No issues with bearings or anything else. Just turn em and proceed to pull hell off the cross!

some people have better luck than others. the amount of abuse is Definitely a factor.i just find the warns are tougher lower profile so they don't get whacked in rocky or drop mud terrain. glad you liked the vid.everybody is definitely in title to a option that all it is. my opinin.meant no disrespect to any other ford owners.

rollinontherim I just bought my 2000 Excursion a few days ago and the auto hubs were taking turns getting stuck locked in. It looked as though someone had done the "put a hole in the cap to lube them" trick already. I went straight to the Warn brass top premiums and immediately had no binding while turning in 2hi, and it may be the placebo effect, but it seems to handle a little better now also. Just boils down to consistent maintenance and a sprinkle of luck with the auto hubs, imo.

He is correct in that the auto-lock hubs are an issue though. One or both will eventually not engage when you hit the 4WD button on the dash, They make a neat noise yet you are left to crawl out in the mud/snow to manual lock. I just ditch kine for warn manual hubs. You have a 16 year old super duty that has not had all the bearings and seals and all other moving parts replaced? I have never encountered that and I am in a salt free zone. I am worried that your Ford needs immediate attention. Crawl under there for me and have a look-see please!

Do you think there is any advantage to going with the premium warn hubs? which model did you install and what year is your truck? Thanks.

Evan Hamaker When I bought mine, the Napa guy tried selling me the standards (like the ones the guy in this video used). I specifically went for the Premiums solely for the metal dial. The standards felt lighter side by side, but it was probably the plastic dial vs metal.

A couple of questions buddy. This swap is for what year of truck? Is this a auto hub or manual only?

ken chenier the air assist auto lock will not work with the auto switch.you'll physically have to get out and lock them. I don't use4x4 that often so it works out ok for me.good luck man!

I bought the premium set for my 99' F250 and did everything you did but had nearly a quarter inch of play. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?! why is that snap ring not needed (one included in the cap screw sack)? since I had nearly a quarter inch of play I used both spring rings to take up the play. Why doesn't your rig have that quarter inch of play?! What parts are missing or am I doing wrong?
@joer5057

Drew6709 That snap ring is designed for the older trucks that have a snap ring groove near the end of the stub shaft. Did you use the new , flat rings that (should have) come with your hubs? I just did this on my 00 Excursion, and after I seated that thin flat snap ring, I had no play left.

Joe R- After emails with WARN and trying a couple ideas I got the premium hubs on and working. Part of my problem was I didn't seat the ring on the first try.
