For anyone trying to remove the brake there's an internal circlip that retains the whole assembly probably 15cm deep in the drum which is an absolute prick to get out. A long seal pick and a screwdriver will get it out but you'll need patience

Great video mate. Think yours was worse than mine. I wanted reassurance regarding the brake mechanism before I strip it and you gave it. Thank you.

According to a comment somewhere I did the brake wrong as I didn't pre tension the spring. However if you pretension the spring nothing slides smoothly and things bind. However I haven't had a drama with my winch so I'm happy haha

Great video mate! Have you tested the winch? What type of grease did you use? Do you know if this model earn winch has a breather?

Hi mate, what are the Specs of the rope you replaced the wire rope with. Looking at the same, just confirming length and diameter of rope prior to purchase 👌

@@T.A.G Hello, I really enjoyed your video. I was watching to see how the planetary gears line up. I took mine apart yesterday and don't think it's assembled back just right. could you tell me where you found the reassemble instructions? Thank you for all the HELP!!! Terry from Pennsylvania

Mate, thank you so much for this video. I literally just bought the same exact winch that hadn’t been used in years and this video is going to help a bunch in trying to get this thing back to life! Cool cuts with the time lapse and the narration with the music as well, excited to see how your channel will grow!

Unfortunately alot of people don't like watching 2 hours of monotonous work and a bit if stuffing around 😂😂😂 Otherwise I'd be happy too. From now on I may make short versions like this and in depth videos longer like you say :)

Consider avoiding grease on the outside of the lock / free spool ring, coz its the grease which causes it to jam over a period of time. fit dry and then squirt some penetrating fluid before installing the lever & once in a while as regular maintenance for free movement.

This marine grease shouldnt dry out like the old general grease. But that's a good tip. Thanks

@@T.A.G That's not a good idea leaving the steel in there completely uncovered. At the very last a thin coating is recommended, and its present from factory too.
