I live here now and there has been lots of shootings here, and my son was shot while riding a bike May 2024. This community is no longer safe. I grew up here, left and came back in 2020. My first year living back in this community a young man was shot in front of my house in the daytime on Oglethorpe Street, 1st house on this video.

I also grew up in Riggs Park so I’m sad to hear about the crime. We had a neighborhood watch group and active community association that minimized crime when I was growing up there.

Shootings and crime in general is happening in all sections of DC not just Riggs Park! Crime and shootings are relatively low in Riggs Park as compared to Anacostia, Petworth, Brightwood, and Capitol Hill just to name a few! Riggs Park is a quiet and peaceful neighborhood where neighbors can sleep at night without the sounds of gunfire!

I grew up on Chillum Place in the 70s. My parents paid $25,000. Dads wished he purchased more than one.

I’ve been here since 2011. It’s been a positive experience for the most part. this area was priced around 700k for a renovated home but prices have dropped a bit since crime has risen and people are beginning to move out of DC. I noticed they are now going for about 650 to 675 and are sitting on the market a lot longer than usual. I think this area is a gem for the convenience. The metro. the Walmart, Costco and its proximity to Maryland. you can be in College Park in about 10 minutes and all you have to do is take Riggs Road all the way up to military and you will be in the Bethesda Chevy Chase area in about 20 to 25 minutes.

An elderly friend tried to get me to purchase the home next door to her on Chillum Place, NE years ago. I declined because I don't like living in that area of Northeast. A cousin lives a block away from the Walmart on Riggs Road, NE. I have always lived uptown off 16th Street, NW across from Rock Creek Park. I just like living in upper Northwest D.C.😆 A 14 year old was recently shot and killed at the Lamond Rec. Center. Muriel Bowser, the mayor of D.C. use to live in Lamond Riggs. After reading a Washington Post article on her former home in Lamond Riggs, she later moved to Colonial Village after becoming mayor.

I grew up in Riggs Pk and its a neighborhood where everybody knows each other and very low crime the problem however is development which is ruining the neighborhood where crime as a result has gone up- Its a quiet secret in DC because it actually feels like you are in the suburbs the streets are quiet as a pin drop in day and night and people do not hang out just peaceful predominantly black until recently where whites and a few immigrants have moved in because the black older people are dying out unfortunately
