Still, Blake covered and ate up the distance Gay would have sped through, in the end, didn't matter of Gay ran the fastest split recorded in human history. History still remembers and will forever remember it was Jamaica with the Gold.

The best ever third leg bend was run by Don Quarrie in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic final. Jamaica were on the Inside lane and Quarrie took the baton in last place. He handed over to Stewart in first place. Stewart, who was only 19 or 20 years old, had a slight niggle and Carl Lewis ran him down for the gold. My belief is if Stewart was 100% he would have taken the gold. But Quarrie's bend was a masterpiece that has never been bettered.

Relay is about 4 runners, whatever their individual time was is TOTALLY irrelevant. If they dropped the beton - nobody would care about each runners time. There is something in the water in 🇯🇲 - for sure!!

It’s also considered the greatest off all time because there’s never been a relay with soo many sun 10 runners in it and 1st and 2nd place both finished under the previous world record time. Each leg was a battle (except maybe the last leg lol)

So doing the math based on the 36.85 official time, each leg median time would have been 9.21 seconds/100 meters…don’t know if headwind or tailwind were factors during the race but either way, that’s a fast ras time 🏃🏿♂️🏃🏿♂️🏃🏿♂️💨💨💨

This record will last a long time! The 100 and 200 will be broken before this one. There was a slow changeover at the second one or it could have been even faster.

@@joemagarac405 I see either of those two getting close, but not breaking the 200. Coleman was hyped up to break the 100 record. The 4x100 require four fast sprinters and I don’t see that happening now. Still, track is a fun sport to watch. When we were kids in the 70’s and saw people break the 10-second barrier, a few of us joked that we could break 9 seconds. Ha!
