That is a very cool way of spreading the love and appreciation of one’s trade all over the world. VERY COOL. Union mason tender in Chicago for over 20 years. I’d bleed for my brickies, and break my back for my brickies because I loved my brickies - even the ones I couldn’t stand. So when I say this, it comes from the heart: Masons and Tenders, we don’t die, we just meet up at the next gig in the sky - just look for the mixer and the scaffold. Joe’s the new guy there. And of course he’s still slamming’ them in; and why not, the blocks are always webs up, and the go-between never needs a shake up. Take care, brother.

Trowel work was impressive never mind laying the bricks.

This is the type of masonry we’re used to in the Southwest US. I’m from Arizona and this is all we’d lay in 110+ degrees

are these standard in UK with the flat ends? blocks here is usa are not flat on ends but stick out to form another 1/2 block chamber when mortared together . also guy seems a bit slow from what i see normally . he is a pro though the way he uses the trowel.

laying the block is one thing. now stocking out the material all day everyday and making sure theres enough work to get started the next day is extremely tough. i used to stock out a 300 foot long wall 1.5 times a day not to mention grouting the walls as well when it was needed. grout everyday or so

When I was labouring, hod carrying for 6 brickies, on my own. I told one of the brickies if it was him making the mortar, he wouldn't be wasteful. It was ridiculous. He'd throw away trowels of shite if he didn't land it right. The rest of the brickies agreed and I then worked for 5. So much easier. I could easily keep up were I struggled a bit before. Boy we earned decent money then.
