I remember my first reaction when I read those last two pages of the original comic. I was absolutely stunned. The ending of this motion comic chapter managed to recreate that same reaction, right down to the Shelley quote after the creature materialises in New York. ""Do it?" Dan, I'm not a Republic serial villain. Do you seriously imagine I would explain my master stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome? I did it thirty-five minutes ago."

@LordZontar
6 жыл бұрын
Rorschach's journal exposing the truth? Nobody will believe it. The New Frontiersman is a crank publication with a circulation smaller than the Ox & Bucs Observer and the public knows Rorschach to be a murderer and a lunatic. That's what the reaction would be in any real world, especially from a public floating high on the fact of a new world no longer facing the peril of nuclear destruction. That Adrian's achievement will eventually crumble is lampshaded not only by the Shelley quote but Jon's last words to him before he leaves the galaxy altogether: "Nothing ever ends, Adrian." No order lasts forever. It won't come from the "exposure" of Adrian's plan in some crank tabloid but from the natural human tendency to fuck things up in the end.

@@chasemartino1197 Yeah, the new Watchmen is complete trash. They literally made up a son of Malcolm's who just so happened to be in a car right next to a giant psychic explosion that kills half of New York, but nah, he's fine. The whole New Frontiersman bit is like saying the whole world would believe Rorschach's story because it was on Alex Jones. It's a complete misunderstanding of the point of the original. It's meant just to cash in on the greatest comic ever written, which could only be hurt by adding anything.

Multi-screen viewing engages me like the kinetic equivalent of an abstract or impressionist painting. Words and images evade rational analysis, allowing subliminal hints of the future to leak through. Transient and elusive: these must be grasped quickly. Computer animations imbue even breakfast cereals with a hallucinogenic futurity: music channels process information-blips, avoiding linear presentation, implying limitless personal choice. These reference points established, an emergent worldview becomes gradually discernible amongst the media's white noise. An era of the conceivable made concrete; and of the casually miraculous.

Honestly, what haunts me the most about this part of the book is the implications of global annihilation as explained by Ozymandias. "'End of the world' does the concept no justice. The world's present would end. It's future, immeasurably vaster, would also vanish. Even our past would be cancelled. Our struggle from the primal ooze, every childbirth, every personal sacrifice rendered meaningless, leading only to dust, tossed on the void winds. Save for Richard Nixon, whose name adorns a plaque on the Moon, no human vestige would remain. Ruins become sand, sand blows away... all our richness and color and beauty would be lost... as if it had never been."
