+Brian Bors Do you think the collapse of Dr. Manhattan's 'floating mars castle' is symbolic of his accepting an empathy for humanity?
@BrianBors
8 жыл бұрын
SiliconBong Probably. It's not like he would have trouble building a new one so it's not significant to the story unless it's a symbol for something and A M doesn't do insignificant details. Everything always means something. (Which I don't like personally but most people tend to do. So hey. Who am I to criticise.) So yeah; The fact that his house that he needed to "escape" from humanity collapses probably symbolises he no longer needs to escape from humanity. Now that I think about it: does she really have enough force in her trow to shatter his entire castle? Would it not break when walked upon or when landing on something? Maybe. But maybe he simply collapses it himself, or releases the protection on it so she can collapse it, because that is the exact moment he regains his empathy. :)

This is by far the greatest chapter; so emotional, clever and interesting with the big "twist" of Laurie's parentage and how it opens Jon's eyes. But Ive never understood why if everything is predestined, it would include Jon explaining outloud what was about to happen. Like, what "force" keeps Jon from freely acting against this destiny? Why would he still be surprised about hearing of Laurie and Dan's affair after explaining he could already see it coming? That's never made any sense to me.
@davidrey4183

Because he doesn't have any agency. Time doesn't exist for him, everything is happening at the same time, so there is no way to change anything because it's always happening. And the whole Watchmen world is deterministic and no one really has any agency (otherwise Jon couldn't see the future or the future he sees would have to change constantly with every real choice of anyone affecting him in any way). It's just a story unfolding. Jon understands it and is there for a ride.
@imanijordan-wheeler5273

In order for Jon to know something is going to happen he has to experience it so he can't actually do anything different than what he knows he would do because it technically has already happened
@gtassa01

There's no force stopping jon really, just logic. He can't stop any of it from happening because it already happened. He saw it happen. It happened to him. He's living in the aftermath, all at the same time. You can't stop what already happened. I guess he's still surprised because linearly, from a normal perspective he shouldn't know about it, but because he doesn't see time linearly he still obviously knows about it. I guess you could think about it as thought jon has 2 perspectives of his life he sees at the same time. One where's he's experiencing life as it happens and the other godlike perspective where he sees everything happening to him all at once.

As far as movies adapted from comics/graphic novels goes, Snyder's movie was extremely faithful & in some ways, much more believable. Although there is a lot more sub context in the comic. Don't know why they couldn't hire a female VA for this motion comic. Hell, a wife/girlfriend/sister/grandmother of someone working on this, with no VA training would've been better than a man doing a woman's voice. Hell, this isn't the Shakespear

Not necessarily. One could use this as an argument FOR Gods. For at the ending of the argument, Dr. Manhatten spontaneously changes his mind about the meaning of life with the concept of how improbable events have taken place. He argues that despite the endless amounts of which ways life could have gone it went a certain way other all like it was planned .Manhatten himself is a being of omnipresent existence. He himself is allegory for God in this story. He is all and isn't, just like God.

Fun Fact, before the interview on TV they asked Manhattan to change the shade of blue he was by. 2 hues How do we know he would ever switch himself back to his original color (or why he wanted that. shade originally) so he might have inalterably changed since the interview... because he forgot what he looked like from the outside, if you are a one man island (god I hated. the hypocrisy. of saying he had no emotion or identity and then had so much patriachrial language in his "objective" science terms, like valuing brutality of conflict of the geography like wrestling greek gods, nerd) and he never bothers to care what he looks. like, or what it could communicate so he was all powerful, and forgot what shade he was
