How do you get water in a sealed and locked gas tank?

Some scooters have gas caps that are not covered by the seat. They are exposed tho the elements and even though they have seals to protect, water can still get in to the tank, especially with huge downpours (which is frequent where we live). Many times, if the fuel tank only has a little bit of gas in it, condensation can build up on the walls of the upper half of the fuel tank and those little beads of water can seep into the gas. Best to completely empty fuel tanks 100% and dry them out when storing a scooter OR fill it up 100% with stabilized fuel (if only for a short time period) so condensation doesn't build up. May not be a huge deal in other parts of the world, but we seem to see a lot of that in Florida.

I thought that to but i had to strip down my carburetor and clean it, remove gas tank and flush it . It was explained to me the fuel systems in these scooters are confined and sensitive . Larger vehicles a little bit of moisture or debris does no harm . Ive learned my lesson . The company that makes HEET will be noticing more sales thanks to this problem .

You do not have to do all he said about water in the gas. I've experienced this on my two scooters. All you need to do is drain all of the water and fuel out of your tank and float bowl,and put fresh gas back into the tank. After a few hits at the starter,it will start right up. No need to take in to a mechanic to clean your carb and fuel lines. Then put some fuel system cleaner in your fresh gas that will clean your carb and help keep moisture out of your system.

mikesidoj2 Thanks for the comment. We have found that not getting all the water out of the fuel system can lead to more problems in the near future, but you can absolutely start by flushing out all the fuel and replacing with fresh. If that does the trick, then ride it like crazy and see if you can get the fresh fuel going all the way through the system and you're right, that may do the trick. From tons of experience, if the water and gas has sat in the carburetor for a while (stale gas is another issue with fuel systems often seen), you can guarantee that your carb bowl is gunked up and that this will cause problems. We see this all the time. Thanks for your thoughts! We appreciate them!

+Johan Velez I would probably replace the carburetor on the scooter. They are inexpensive and on a tao tao scooter, it would be your best bet if you are having trouble with it running due to water / bad fuel issues.

+Johan Velez If you are referring to the carb fuel drain,it should be where these guys are telling you it is.If it's a used bike,someone may have taken it off or ran it some place else, which means you'll have to trace it out from or to the bottom of the carb. It may be plugged off at the carb,which means it may not have a screw and it is plugged instead.If plugged,take the plug out to drain. Hope this helps.

Scooter has been sitting for a year with gas inside. I already replaced the dead battery, spark plug, and syphoned the bad gas in the gas tank. What else do you suggest I do to get it started. It is turning over but won't fire up.

The carburetor is all gunked up and needs to be cleaned and have all the jets cleaned out. Depending on the type of scooter, it may be more time and cost-effective to just replace it.

@@NewScooters4Less a new carb is less than a new bike. If you want to fix the issue by throwing money at it to avoid work time, a new carb is cheaper than a new bike and takes less work than a carb deepclean

What does it mean if you got water mixed with your oil on moped 50cc
@NewScooters4Less

Did you scooter get knocked over or get flooded by rain? If there is water in your oil and it is a 4-stroke scooter, you need to clean out the motor by flushing the oil a few times. I'm just curious how it go in there... Do you know?

So sorry. We don't sell Daelim and don't have a 125cc to show this process, but it should be pretty similar.

Cuts out when stopping? Full throttle? Is it 'skipping'? or is it just a clean cut off while driving?

Dang. I really wish I could help, but there are just so many possibilities. Do you have a local Suzuki shop in your area? That is going to be the best thing to do. Sorry!
