Nice job. I am a chemist, and I suggest using a bulk head attachment which will ensure no leakage. Also, connect a hose to your drain pipe to direct that water away from your track system. Lastly, I must suggest using potable (not portable, but potable), water materials as that tote is not suited for drinking water. The plastic used in that tote contains highly toxic residues that leach into the water. A small LPDE (or food grade), plastic 30 gallon stock tank or a zinc plated steel stock tank is cheap enough. You'll need to make a cover though, however you are obviously adept at anything. Or you might connect 3, food grade LPDE 5 gallon buckets (they say "food grade" on the side, and you can get them at Menards for $5each), in series, each with fittings leading to the main entry pipe. Also, PVC pipe is not for drinking water either. You should use potable water pipes and fittings.

Very impressive. Many ideas come to mind while watching (as with many viewers), First, as a former plumber, an easy solution to the cork thing is to use a 90 fitting on the inside of your tank, glued in and pointing up. Then take a scrap piece of pipe long enough to reach the top of the inside of your take, glue on a cap, then stick in in the 90 tight (don't glue that). Then, when ya get it there and hooked up, simply twist and remove the capped pipe. Keeps you hands (mostly) out of the water and all. You probably have those extra pieces lying around. Also, try am eye bolt on the end of you roof rafter to tie the rope onto, will save you from using the boards to tie off the rope. I would extend that drain pipe way further away from your cabin, it's just gonna create more mud if not. What I found amazing is that the wagon did not tip over backwards while hoisting it all up the ramp. But I guess you have tried it before hand,. and the pressure from the pull rope helped a bit to. You may want to enclose your water tank, and let it get heat from the inside of your cabin to keep it from freezing. Just make a good sealed door that you can remove for getting the wagon up and into the enclosure. Having said all that, this is 2015, and the video was 2012, and with you craftiness, I'm sure you've already came up with solutions to your little problems. But hey, what all you have done is WAYYYYYYYY cool. I'm quite a bit older, but me and my brother are in the process of building us a cabin out in the woods. A place to stop when riding ATVs, or just hang out and get away from everything. Awesome video.

Hi Kenny you can pick up some rubber sink and tub plugs to stop the water in both the tank inside and the sink inside from walmart or home depot. they usually come in pacs of multiple sizes. they also have a loop built in to add a chain or cord. you can use a small one ith a chain or cord attached to your lid on your tank to easily pull it out. you may put a filter in the lid and collect rain water from your roof as well, just a thought.

Hi again Kenny a 12volt battery warming pad to keep batteries from freezing under your tank would work to keep your water warm enough to prevent freezing. a 12volt battery and a solar battery charger would make it pretty much maintenance free. you could also go with a metal water tank and build a small fire under it to heat the water.

Kenny you're incredible ! I'd say you're not much of a couch potato. When do you ever have time to sit around and play video games? Just kidding. I am impressed and have been a subscriber. I do a lot of the same things you do. in fact that was how I found you. Occasionally when I get stuck I check youtube to see if someone else has had to solve a similar problem . Then I go to work and adapt or apply what I learn from other folks. We have a small farm and we only buy stuff when I can't figure out how to make it myself or I buy stuff to build what I need on the farm. I've thought of doing videos of some of my more creative fixes but I've never gotten around to it. Thanks for sharing all your talent and energy. a few recommendations. 1) mount the water valve/sink to a more stable place, then use a flexible hose to connect the tank to the hut. 2) You should find a container designed for water; that'll help the leaking tub problem. And 3) if/when you change the water tank, you might as well put a valve on the tank.
@Atkrdu
11 жыл бұрын
Good idea on a few levels! What videos have the faucets & shut-off valves? As for the water not freezing, you might try running the water at a low speed (barely a stream) into another container in the cabin, then switch them in the morning. That keeps the pipes from freezing & that whole container probably won't freeze in one night. With that, you might just stir it every now & then (keeping the ice from forming a solid layer), smashing whatever ice does happen to form.

This seems really elaborate for what you get out of it. I like the elevated platform idea, but I think a manifold that has shut off valves on it and flexible connections to 4 five gallon buckets might be simpler in the long run. You might also want to look at some insulation so your pipes don't freeze up and burst in the winter. With a shutoff valve for each bucket you can isolate each bucket for refill, or to use a specific bucket in sequence.

Nice work! Had you considered, bringing your 'trolley' higher, and dumping into a fixed container, that would be your reservoir for the sink? Would be just a bit higher for more pressure. I realize you are only working with just you, but with a reservoir, someone could wash dishes, etc WHILE you were out on a water-run... Still, pretty doggone good!

Hi there, I assume that you get water from the roof when it rains. Adding another pipe just below the level of over flowing the tank you could fill up another tank placed on the ground. When the first finishes the water you just switch them. Another good project could be to build a vertical wind water pump, so you can bring water from the second tank up to the first one. Cheers.

Great job as always, but remember garden hoses can contain bacteria. I remember a story of football team got sick after the players all drink from the same hose. You should use marine hoses, or food grade hoses for water. With your system you should disinfect the water before drinking. Again, great job as always!

Nice, but I would put a hose on the drain that way it does not attract bugs, or get's muddy near your cabin. Also I would get a barrel for the water ( I think it's a 50 gal or more and build a box with insulation around it to keep it from freezing.) you could use the wagon system and a bucket to fill the barrel. That's just me. But you probably have better ideas.
