Hey !! Greetings from California. I love your channel. I am originally from Pune now live in USA .My dad was a motorman for 38 years in the Indian railways. He use to drive the locals between Pune and lonavala . Also the karjat local. For sometime he was in Mumbai. Then got transferred to Pune. He had also driven the Deccan Queen. Your channel is very special to me. I grow up loving and watching the trains. It was so nostalgic for me . I have travelled on the Pune - Mumbai route countless times. My dad passed away last year 😢. I can imagine my dad driving these trains. He use to always tell me “ Rain or shine the trains never stop. He loved his job with a passion. I’m proud of my dad. I Thank you for you channel and your passion for the trains.

Very nice to hear from you and glad that you are enjoying my channel. Hats off to your dad for giving his best for Indian Railways. Very sorry to hear about him passing away. May his soul rest in peace! How long back were your trips between Pune and Mumbai? Did you also accompany your dad on the loco? Not sure if you have seen these but here are some of my Mumbai-Pune trips: - kzitem.info/news/bejne/wImYyXlvcl-pZH4 - kzitem.info/news/bejne/tKhrvGWjpad8jYI - kzitem.info/news/bejne/zoutl32KfWiWf2U - kzitem.info/news/bejne/2m6Q2Xagk2qmgXY

@@ManiVijay Yes , My dad did take me for rides from Pune to lonavala in the cab of the unit local when I was a kid say about 8 to 9 years old. It was such trilling experience and the memories of which I cherish forever. He let me blow the whistle or horn . You do it with your foot and I found that very interesting.But not after I grew up as females were not allowed back then. I don’t whether they are allowed now . In America women also drive the metro and Amtrak trains. From the 80s right up to 2016 I travelled numerous times to Mumbai. 2016 was the last trip . I always traveled by DQ. My favorite train . It left Pune from platform no 1 at 7:15 sharp. I’m just curious .How did you develop this passion for the trains?
@ManiVijay
3 жыл бұрын
@Michelle 777 It's wonderful that you got to travel with your dad in the loco - sweet memories, for sure. My only loco ride between Bombay and Pune was in 1995 (I have shared those videos above). The driver was Rodriguez - your dad must have known him. I didn't realize that you could blow the horn with your foot. It is appalling that females were not allowed back then. Thankfully, that has changed. We now have female LPs manning EMUs and long-distance trains. DQ is a flagship train in IR and one of my firm favorites. You must have seen its livery change throughout the years. I used to love it when it had that white livery with a grey band in the middle and red stripe at the bottom. Here is a pic I took of that DQ back in 1989 - www.irfca.org/gallery/Carriages/Deccan_Queen_3.jpg.html . I wish it gets back a matched-livery loco once it goes LHB. I got to travel in the DQ only in 2017 but it was a memorable journey. But I remember spotting it right from the 70s. I have been an ardent railfan for as long as I can remember. I carried this IR craze with me even after coming to US in 1985 (I presently reside in New Hampshire). Along with two others, I started a club called IRFCA, back when I was in graduate school, which is now the largest club for IR fans - www.irfca.org . Here is a recent article about it - www.atlasobscura.com/articles/indian-railways-fans . How do you keep yourself updated about Indian Railways? Do you travels in trains here as well - Amtrak and others?

@@ManiVijay I checked your website Wow!! That is so impressive. You have taken your passion for the IR to the highest level. I must say your zeal for the trains is truly commendable . Kudos to you . just awesome. I’m lost for words . My dad would have loved your website and YT channel. He would have a lot to talk about and narrate all his adventures and episodes in 38 years of his career as a motorman. Some of which are pretty serious and how he had to trouble shoot and take charge. From his engine catching fire , to a bridge rather (culvert ) collapsing due to heavy rains in the monsoon between talegoan and Kamshet. Pune - lonavala route. It happened in July 1989 .at around 7:30 am if remember correctly.This episode is the highlight of his career which my family will never forget.As his train was approaching this culvert he sensed something was not right from a distance and he stopped the unit local applied the emergency breaks . The train stopped two bogies over the culvert . But then to his horror the train slowly started to go down due to the tons of weight as the culvert was washed away due to very heavy rain . Nobody was injured and no loss of lives. Passengers managed to get out . My dad was in neck deep water he came out through the window of his cab. It was providence that saved his life that day. He was soaking wet but had the presence of mind to run as fast as he could to the nearest Tele phone booth to stop another packed local soon approaching full speed straight to unimaginable disaster . He saved this train in the nick of time.. Next day every leading news paper in Pune and Mumbai had his name in its headlines along with the scary pictures of the two bogies in the water and just the tracks hanging with nothing underneath as the whole culvert was washed away. He had all the cuttings . No trains were running between Pune and Mumbai till they fixed it. My dad got many bravery awards from the railways for his presence of mind to save so many lives. A very good article was published in the Mumbai Midday. Under the title ‘ Unsung Hero” and .Another very good article in the local Marathi paper . After that his colleagues and others in the railway circle named the culvert after him. I could go on and on with all his experiences I thought I could share this with you. Anyways great interacting with you . You revived all my memories of my dad who was my hero. I keep my dad’s memory alive and also updated about Indian railways watching YT channels . I must say your channel is the best by far.

Oh, wow!!! This is truly a mind blowing story of heroism!! I am speechless!! What a hero your dad was!! I can imagine why you are so proud of him. It is because of people like him that Indian Railways is special, after all, it is the hardworking IR staff and their dedication that keeps everything running round the clock. It would have been my honor if I could have met him. But, I still feel privileged to hear about his exploits from you 🙏🙏 I would love to hear more about your dad's experiences, if at all possible. May I ask what is your dad's name? Also, is there a picture of the culvert that was named after him? I sure would like to share that with my railfan buddies. I grew up in India not knowing any other railfan. Fortunately, an uncle of mine was in the railways and I was like this satellite 😁. I used to hover around him whenever I got an opportunity, so that I could get to hear his experiences and add to my knowledge as well. He was also very respected among railway men as a man of character and integrity. His last post was the GM of Eastern Railway (and I was able to enjoy a ride on the GM's saloon from Howrah to Mughalsarai). My dad passed away as well - almost a year back - and I couldn't even go to India bcoz of the pandemic. Life can be cruel at times but we all move on somehow. Once again, thank you for your priceless feedback. It is comments like these that makes it all worthwhile for me to upload videos. If my videos can touch someone and bring out nostalgic memories, then nothing like it. I am actually part of a Whatsapp group of railfans from India who live in US. We share all kinds of experiences and news about railways including pictures/videos. In fact, one of my close railfan friends lives in California - I have known him for over 30 years!! Not sure what your thoughts are about interacting with other railfans on social media. In any case, feel free to connect with me on Facebook - facebook.com/mani.vijay1 - I have a large collection of vintage IR pictures there 🙂. The main reason I got into taking videos is because I was missing IR so much while living in US. So I felt that by capturing my IR journeys on video, I could relive those experiences from the confines of my home by watching those videos and feel a connection with IR. When I was taking footage in the 1990s and early 2000s, little did I know that I would be able to share them with others one day. The wonders of the Internet!!!

Remember those days back in late 80s when Coromondal used to get hauled by a single power WDM2 loco between Khurda & Behrampore at 120 kmph. At that time there were no Durantas, no shatabdis, but some of the trunk route SFs bore the crown of 'high speed activities. This video made me remember of those golden days. 👍

I travelled a lot in IR during the 80s, 90s all the way uptil 2012. I used to travel from Hyderabad to Kavali and back in the 7053/7054 Madras - Hyderabad express as it was known at the time and later in the Charminar and Narayanadri express. Edit: At first the Madras express used to go via Vijayawada, later, when the route via Nadikudi became operational it was diverted via that route. I think loco change was at Tenali Jn. As it was diesel traction from Hyd to Tenali via Guntur. Edit2: And I am glad that IR is going from strength to strength. Edit3: Especially the bio toilets.

WAM4 and WDM dominated, WAPs and WDS4 did the guest appearance during that time. After WAP1/4 increased, WAP5/7 did guest appearances whereas now NDM/ZDM doing guest appearances like WDS4 that time. NDM/ZDM replaced the steam, Magnetic loco might replace the WAP5/7. Like steams, soon magnetic locos guest appearances will be coming soon. Two different type of locos piggybacking each others or being coupled together was also a guest appearance I often experienced during that time such as WDM piggybacking WAM4 while hauling any express trains, WDM and WDS4 coupled together, WCAM1 coupled with WCAM2/2P or WAM4 coupled with WAP1/4 piggybacking each other incase of hauling any express or Superfast train having too many number of coaches along with additional freight cars attached, WCAM2/2p coupled with WAP1/4 and piggybacking each other incase of loco failure while hauling any Superfast train in WR or WCAM1 coupled with WAM4 and piggybacking each other incase of any loco failure while while hauling any mail/express train in WR to mention a few.

Sir 2 questions - 1 - I see the entire route is electrified then why they use diesel loco?? 2 - what was the MPS in those times?
@ManiVijay

Good questions: 1. The section had been energized only a few months back, so only the Punjab Mail had been put on electric traction (by July 1992). Others were still running behind diesels. 2. MPS was 105.

So It took 50 Minutes to reach Burhanpur from Bhusawal in 1992, and after 30 years It still take 45-60 Minutes for the same route.

The MPS of this section is still 110. CR does have a plan to raise it to 120.
