So the question is, do smokeless wood burning firepits actually work? And if they do work how exactly do they work? So we did an unboxing video with the family of the solo stove. They were a little expensive but I thought they would be worth a try. Especially if they actually are smokeless. The reason that was important to me, is I live in a regular neighborhood. And lets just say that the neighbors would be less than pleased if we were smoking out the back yard. So I thought I would take a shot at it.
First thing I noticed is the nice floor of the firebox. I can tell that there is good airflow and plenty of room to allow oxygen to pump into the firebox, which will allow for easy ignition. Also you will see the air slots on the top of the pit. This is how this guy really works and where the magic happens. Essentially how it works, is this upper chamber pumps more oxygen which is fuel for the fire. Normally the smoke and soot is the parts that have not burned up. So by putting more oxygen there. The oxygen can grab those matters and return them up, which does two things. First thing it does obviously is burn up the smoke, so there is little to no smoke. The second thing it does is it actually allows it to burn cleaner. Which is good for the environment so that is another plus. Also as another side benefit to this, is I feel like it actually burns hotter. So your fire pit will actually produce heat which is a cool benefit as well.
All and all I am very happy with the product, and it will for sure be staying in backyard. My kids and wife love it. I plan on using it quite a bit more, and I would say it met my expectations and actually does produce less smoke!
