Your plan on evacuating is a great thing as being prepared like that and at a good vantage point to move quickly is commendable. I am a volunteer firefighter where I live and have seen quite a few bushfires in this area that has devastated properties and taken lives so your plan works well!! One thing though to save you a little more is wear long sleeve cotton tops, jeans and heavy boots and a cap. That way you will not get burnt by flying embers. Have your chain saw with you and a pair of heavy duty leather gloves in the vehicle in case of you need to move a tree or branch off the road. Stay safe Dan & Laura :)

@@CharlotteGreenTruthSeeker i’m not knocking their actions they did everything right, they prepared for evacuation and ensured they had a safe exit point. they did everything right, but title should have been we prep to evac, as that’s exactly what they did. maybe it’s different over there. here we prep just like they did. In no way am i knocking them for prepping to leave, i 100% would have done the same. Evac here means get out and get out now, don’t wait, get completely out of the area to an evacuation point. we have crazy fires here, it’s not safe to just hang out in the area, to me and it’s only my view they prepared but stayed in the area, that’s not an evac sorry it’s just not.- to put in in perspective Australian bush fires here are massive, compare size of land mass. ash Wednesday, black Saturday, 2020 our land mass burnt over 3 x the size their country, so to an Australian Evacuation is just get out now and don’t bloody stop
@CharlotteGreenTruthSeeker

I live in Australia. I don't need a lesson, lol. There wouldn't be a complete evacuation of the next town over for a fire that size. They would have been put on standby (which is what these guys did. They evacuated their land and watched from a good stand point) in case the winds and fire changed direction. I've been through a fire first hand, and I stand by what I said.

As for your mortaring i think with my 30 years building experience you did it the best way (not the easiest) and it will last for many years, dry mix and half fill with gravels that apparently you SHOULD OF DONE will deteriorate rapidly in your climate, and is a very DIY method. I like to take a wet brush to the cement when its nearly set, it blends smooths and cleans the stones. keep carrying on and THANKS Ed 😄

Doing some trekking in and near Serra do Estrella atm (near Fundao), its a nice and warm 33c at an altitude of 1500mtrs today, I guess more down the slope its even warmer.. Atleast you got nice and open ground, though grassfires will set things ablaze as well, hence its really important to cut before dry season. That was a small fire, you did good not to underestimate it as with just a little wind that can become very big in no ammount of time. Just always take wind into account, it makes fires rage either up or downhill. Maybe get some fireswats or however you call them in english, the metal fan shaped things on a broomstick. To combat a starting fire in grass Happy you are ok!

Great job so far both. I used to lay patios for a living and with big spaces between big rocks like you have that what you’re doing is as good away as any but as you get towards the smaller stones with smaller gaps I’d mix your sand cement dry and with your shovel pour dry mix between then brush lightly to get some of the mix of the tops of the stones them either with a fine rose on your watering can or a fine mist on your hosepipe gently spray the dry mix and tops of the rocks this will clean the rocks and damper the dry mix so it will set. But that’s my way you do it your own way because your you. Glad that fire wasn’t any closer to you and importantly that no one was hurt. But what a great job the firemen did that’s the third wild fire this last week I’ve heard of and fortunately all were put out quickly and without injury. ❤ Stay safe both of you. X

So this was a close call for you but good for you and the surrounding area it apparently been not to bad, we went through this in Canada the last few year in our surrounding area on a very big scale thousands of square kilometres burned and on evacuation alert, my advice as long you have time left before you have to run, put your important belongings to the safest place on the property if there is one, next take lawnmower and weed wacker what ever you have and cut on your property line mostly where the fire is coming from all your Gras dead and dry brush some dead trees not worth of saving, clean it up and if you have enough water to wet everything down, that’s all you can do before you have to run, and always keep you place in that order that it is more save, good luck you guys, love you and what you do a lot, you are such a cool couple

Hi, If you use a heavy wet brush or broom on the painting after before it drys you'll get a much better finish. 👍

We have lived through bushfire here in australia. the best advice is leave early. Leaving your departure too late can be fatal. glad your ok. for future reference. Making a large perimeter fire break is the best preparedness you can do. have a bug out emergency kit to grab and go. cheers cheryl.

You did the right thing. We had a wild fire near our urbanisation when we lived in Spain. Sparks landing on our roof but we were not told to evacuate as they had it under control by the evening. Very scary to watch.

Great success on patio and staying alive . We get huge forest fires in Canada many of which are deliberatly started. We have a loopy dictator. Having a escape plan is better than being caught with your pants down....J'taime

An advice por pointing: wet the stones with water first before putting the morter, It helps to bind stones and the mix better. All the best!

Thanks Peter as you will see in previous videos they were already set in with wet mortar in the winter and did that method x

Get a heavy house painters brush, a bucket of water to brush the motar joints to get a nicer finish of the motar joints.

The Soot and ash that blows in is good for the land though. Sometimes its hard to see the positive side of things. the places that burn come back so green and lush.
