You genuinely have an incredible cave system on your hands here, Matt. I would take special care to maintain the structures within it and to properly map it out. It could be a game-changer for the resort with the right conservation and management. If you could get ahold of the aquifer that feeds into that cave and utilize it efficiently elsewhere in order for you to provide controlled tours you might just find an altogether different experience than what you originally planned to with The Ranch. There are many aspects to maintaining a cave structure though especially when you are taking the water out of it. As the rock dries out it can make certain formations weaker as a result.

It's one of the problems with caves on properties. Matt's a good guy and wants everyone to be safe, but as the landowner, he can also be liable for any deaths or injuries that happen. In the UK, a lot of caves are being closed off permanently, or severly restricted because land owners don't want the liability, and the risks often can't be insured. Given America is rather litigious and a lot of people now know these caves exist, it might be a good idea to install a lockable gate over the entrance to keep trespassers out.

Hey Matt, Hello from Dallas. That cave his the family cave you are looking for. It just needs the entrance and some spots to be excavated and wash out a lot of that mud. You may even find more rooms at a lower level when you wash the mud out. That river has to be going somewhere. It may fill the cave back out but it doesn't completely flood it. I cleaned caves in Missouri about 50 miles from St Louis. The dirt that is above the cave sometimes fills them up. The trash pump is a good start, but you need buckets or a lot more water to wash out the mud.

Wow, this brings back memories. I was lucky enough to be a part of a Boy Scouts Explorer Post supported by Monsanto in St. Louis (I do not need to hear the haters please) This was back back in the mid 80's. Monsanto was awesome. We were based out of their Main HQ in St. Louis and there were several Dad's that were employed there and Monsanto threw a ton of bucks at this Boy Scout program that allowed us to travel through out the Country doing everything from canoeing, white water rafting, mountaineering, rock climbing, base jumping, extended back packing runs, caving, and anything in between... Post 9747 High Adventure STL..... So to relate I repelled 100 + feet with a kayak attached via a carabiner at age 15 and we spent 5 hours paddling through Mid Missouri caves, dragging, swimming and squeezing all of us through... Loved it... The video Matt brought back a huge ton of memories.... Yes, I was in awe, scared, panicked, freaked out, in disbelief and wanting to come back for more.... Until you experience this everyone you can not knock it.... It is not for anyone that has any type of Closter phobia.. Outside of that if you are adventurous go for it....

Wonder how unstable these caves make the ground above?
@Dragonited
10 ай бұрын
It's not an issue with these types of caves. It's part of an old sea bed with large calcium deposits that then get covered with layers of sand that get compressed over millions of years. Then the seabed gets pushed up with plate tectonics to be above water, and rain will slowly get under the sandstone and erode the calcium stone. The sand stone acts as a lid that covers it, and only in very rare cases the ground gives way, and that is only if the caves are closer to the ground and there are very large caves under. There are much, much largercaves like that up near the Apalacian mountains in the Kentucky area.
