I read an article from dieticians about the mustard diet and the negative they said was, "it's a lot of raw vegetables, so if you're not used to that much fiber, you might have gastrointestinal distress." This "diet" doesn't seem harmful, just a little too much mustard for my taste. Thank you for being so even-keeled in your analysis.
@lisaloomer
Жыл бұрын
Sounds like the only negative is for the nose of the people around you when you transition to this "diet" 😅💨👃🤢
@Xessa82
Жыл бұрын
@@lisaloomerIt definitely can be far more negative than that. If you suddenly start eating a ton of fiber and you aren't use to it you're most likely going to suffer from debilitating stomach cramps and multiple trips per day to the bathrom with soft or loose BMs. If you happen to be someone who already suffers from GI problems and tries this, it's most likely going to aggravate those problems. For someone not use to a ton of fiber or for someome with GI problems, their best bet is to ease into this so that the body has time to adjust to all the fiber.

So it’s the exact same thing as eating raw veggies with pretty much ANY condiment. My 18 yr old daughter came to me the other day and was telling me about this diet, but she didn't describe it as a diet to lose weight, just a type of healthy lunch is what she called it. She was saying she wants to try it so bad. She said, "I don't even know what cottage cheese is or what it tastes like, I've never had it, but I'm craving it so bad now." What a strange thing it is how much influence online personalities have over people.

Unfortunately this is a normal thing in kpop. Somi with 3 bananas a day, IU with sweet potato, apples, and a protein shake, Blackpink eating 1-3 times out of a tiny cup, diet pill/konjac jelly meals, etc. I so wish that would be removed out of the kpop world but when you get fans that are constantly pushing unhealthy habits on idols it will never end

The problem goes both way : most idols are underweight / undereat because of the strict company policies and fan expectations, and fans keep saying their idols are "naturally skinny" and "eat healthy" which in 95% of cases is not true imho. It's the ugly side of the industry :(

I think somi struggles a lot with either eating disorders or eating disorders behaviors because some of the stuff she says are sad. The way she constantly posts her weight and her BMI on her IG, the way she talks badly about her past chubby self saying her body wasn’t perfect back then, she also loves talking about her weight loss in general. I think her being in the industry from such a young age, probably hearing how great she looks after losing weight, and the obvious self esteem issues have definitely took a toll on her. Her parents even commented how much she changed in the year she was with IOI. Her mom found so much medication in her belongings when they were helping her pack up and move out the dorm for various pain. Her mom literally said there’s a medicine for every type of sickness in here….And they were so sad to see it and she told them I really have been working hard this past year. As someone with an ED, i feel very sad for those idols. It’s already so hard for me to live my normal typical boring life with an ED, i can’t imagine working in an industry that heavily focuses on my appearance.

I actually don't know much about Kpop but a friend of mine was in a group (a very famous one too but it was all male) and he would tell me ALL sorts of horrible diet stories. SM Town? I think they are the most notorious ones for doing strict diets and height/weight requirement to be in those groups. Not sure if things have changed now but at the height of my friend's career (early 2010s) he said even the guys are subjected to very low calorie diets (he is 5'11 almost 6ft and they make him eat less than 1600 calories!) The perspective from him and his group mates (they speak English well/are from America) is so interesting because they are westernized and understand that the standards are kinda absurd. Like, girls were encouraged to eat less than 800 calories a day, take lots of vitamins, and protein shakes. But apparently it was "justified" for the girls to eat 800 calories because they were only like 80-90lbs. From my knowledge, some of the labels like JYP, CUBE, are way more lenient. And if the girls decide to not eat or eat little, it isn't because the labels are forcing them. It is just so competitive that no one wants to be the "fat one".

Tiktok has genuinely made me terrified that people are just doing whatever they see without any common sense. I was on something called a 'milk diet'. I had to go on it to shrink my liver before bariatric surgery and admittedly, I lost 6lbs in weight. BECAUSE MY LIVER SHRUNK. Whenever I mention this fact, nobody picks up on the fact it is a Short term (3 weeks only) diet to reduce my liver size temporarily so that my surgery could take place and ask me what I ate and how I ate it so THEY can lose weight. I'm like: 'It is reduce the size of an organ that should not be reduced in weight ordinarily under medical supervision'. People do not care about their long term health as long as they have weight loss.

For instance breakfast was a protein shake and cottage cheese. Lunch was a protein shake, soup broth, and a sugar free pudding. Dinner was soup broth, cottage cheese and tomato juice. And tons of water. I dropped 17 pounds in 2 weeks. But I was also on a ALL LIQUID DIET and only for 2 weeks and only to shrink my liver so the laparoscopic surgery went easier. I just started myself on a diet about a week ago for the first time in my life. Everybody has a diet for their own personal reasons. Mine is for my IBS constipation. Since I just started a diet for the first time in my life, I'm starting off small with implementing things into my diet like cucumber, tomato, and avocado salad. I'm pretty sure in a month, it will become something more. (I just ordered a bacon and eggs to have protein) I might learn more. And my diet will probably change over time based on blood work, symptoms, different tastes in foods, etc. I cut out most carbs and most sugars. I still have bread. But I'm a sucker for tiny donuts. Diabetes also runs in my family. Ultimately decided to start eating healthy because I got tired of being bloated & constipated from processed food. Also, I was never full or satisfied.

Thank you so much! I’m baffled by people seriously trying to diagnose people with ED’s. Sure…..someone eating a salad with their burger instead of fries is “disordered”. It’s okay for people to try to find the best way to eat for themselves that makes them feel the best. The vitriol is nutty too. If someone does have an ED, they need help not to be ripped apart on social media. Thank you for highlighting this.

I used to follow this girl on instagram when she was first going through her journey (mustard excluded). Seeing this video pop up was like whiplash in a way lol… I had no idea she was famous for something like this now 😅crazy. She’s literally got (or had, I guess?) her own meal plan and pre-workout/protein powder products. I’m ashamed to admit that I did buy her meal plan for tips and such, but it was so basic that I didn’t go any further than that. Pretty glad I didn’t, now.

It's things like that, chasing a beauty standard that is hurting people's self image, is why I'm happy being a proud bear. I weigh around 120kg, and while I'm not in the best shape I workout and instead of trying to lose the weight I'm just building muscle mass while still appreciating the fat I have in my body. I love my belly, I love being thick, and I love being curvy, and I still feel healthy and I still watch my health, I'm proud of my body. Being fat and being sexy or beautiful are not mutually exclusive. We need more body positivity and less chasing something that society told us is beautiful.

YESSSS-I’m old so I’m not really on TikTok, but when I saw ‘The Mustard Lady’ I thought she looked familiar. I bought one of her diet plans in 2016 or 2017. It was extremely low calorie. She had the keto phase, a vegetarian era. I believe she had a baby since then so I’m sure she could be using post partum weight loss as part of her journey, not just reusing the same 80 lbs lost story. I eventually quit following because she was always pushing a new diet or products.

I remember the Banana Diet being a popular fad diet featured everywhere on Japanese TV years ago. Each show will give you surface level info on how the diet works just for you to find out there are like a million rules that you need to by a whole damn text book for in order to properly follow the diet regimen.
@MoragOctober

When Jaime first mentioned the banana diet I thought "well, it's generally not healthy to be so extreme and eat only one thing, but at least with bananas there are vitamins and fibre, so ..." and then I got to the part of the video where it said the K-Pop star only ate THREE bananas a day. That's less than 300 kcal a day, which is nowhere near what a person needs. I had assumed a banana diet would mean you can eat as many bananas as you want

As someone with a long term ED and a restrictive diet because of autoimmune, I've never had someone get mad at me for the ED. I mean my abusive parents, maybe, but they had deeper issues. The anger online isn't because they have an ED, but because someone seems to be presenting an ED as a health trend. The anger comes from that being underhanded and dangerous to people looking for help and I get it.
@sheenajae
Жыл бұрын
Yes. I'm curious how much this woman is promoting restictive eating- Jamie said she often always eats the same things. Maybe she's not, but it is a valid concern. It's strange to me to conflate an individual's changing eating journey with someone who is promoting & making money off it.

people never hate on anyone for promoting anti-diet bs, only when people give tips on how to lose weight or eat healthy. so its more than just ppl assuming they are promoting unhealthy habits that upsets them, its that these diet influencers are trying to lose weight. bc wheres this energy for ppl promoting overeating or eating unhealthy? i used to be fat and hated people “with eds” until i lost weight. the anger stemmed from envy bc i didnt think i could do it so i took it out on people who were promoting weight loss. thats whats happening tbh
