Spending time together outside working on the garden and yard has been the new normal at my house this year. I live at 6000 feet and have 4 acres of prime Colorado landscaped yard and flowers. Growing plants and fruit trees with birds and bees dancing through them sure beats watching CNN and local news. There is beauty in so many things around us if we just get off the couch and go outside and do something with the time we all have. Love this kind of video showing your passion for the plants and animals. The smiles and laughter that you both have makes all of us smile too. ;-)

The bergemot (bee balm) is beautiful -- the wild ones in the Chicago area are more of a baby blue. I photograph a host of wildflowers -- black-eyed Susans, several different varieties of coneflower, butterfly milkweed, as well as common and swamp milkweeds -- and so many more! I am not a gardener, but my Mom was, and I learned a lot from her when I was a kid about the area's wildflowers. And we have sweet Joe-Pye weed, Eupatoriadelphus purpureus, around here, too! And we have a slightly different prairie blazingstar, Liatris pycnostachya, in Illinois. Awesome stuff and another great hobby for you two to enjoy together. Thanks as always for sharing your adventures. You both are a joy to watch. God bless and prosper you both!

Hi neighbor! I live near Indianapolis, Indiana. I have a lot of the same plants that you have and also have the red bee balm. I transplanted from a previous house that we lived at for 14 years. It had no flowers when we moved in, but had butterfly gardens all around the property. I transplanted a few things before we moved includ8ng that bee balm that I had purchased from Lowes or Home Depot. I drove by my old house and saw that the new neighbors had mowed all of the flower gardens down. It was sad for all of the work that it had taken me to do that.

Cole and Jay, - Well done, on your beautiful flower garden! 🙂 It is a labor of love with a purpose and meaning! Can try a ranking plant on border fences/overhead structure,- granadilla; Chayote marrow - sechium edule; etc! When the plants have died off, dig them into the ground as fertilizer for next season's crop. Add in used tea bags! Put earthworms in there, they will grow well. Just before you start planting for the next season, dig in with a garden fork to get worms for fishing (Using a spade will chop some worms!) You can take it further by planting outside your garden; example, with lillies on each side of your jetty, along the shore line; and in swampy areas! And fennel out in other areas for wildlife! 🙂

Dwarf Nasturtium ( Tropaeolum minus) are a great flower for pollenators. They grow quite quickly from seed and do spread but the colours are incredible. Make great trailing plants. I used to grow them back in the 80's. Another great thing with them is they encourage growth in other flowers in particular roses. Not sure if they will grow in the USA but here in the UK they thrive. Again, another great video and Jay with a flower in her hair stole my heart. Thanks guys.

We grew probably 75% of what you are seeing here from seed and then a lot of it has either been perennial or reseeded! We start a lot of our seeds indoors 6wks or so before the last frost and then transplant so we will have early flowers and then will do some successional planting to have good healthy plants all season long! Really glad you enjoyed this episode. Seems we have a lot in common! Take care!

@@COLE_and_JAY what does your winter season look like? I have seen snow in your videos from time to time and it looks like you can fish almost all year long, which means your ponds rarely freeze on the surface, right? Are you able to plant as early as March or April? I live in Indiana so we can't plant safely until after Mother's Day normally. I got a late start this year and decided to try seeds and also containers. The late start is really affecting the fruit and vegetable production however. I have been catching up with all of your prior videos the last month. Last night I just watched the Coke can challenge at one of your friend's houses. That was awesome!! I had never heard of that before and was so cool to see! The pond that you live on is awesome or is it a lake. It looks huge! Is the dam that you fish at close to your house also? Is that why your pond is now more of a lake? I ask that because I see the full size trees that are growing out of it, which makes me think that it is an area that has been changed due to a dam. That would be awesome to just walk out the back door and walk down to your own dock whenever you wanted. Very cool! Thanks for all of the great content! Yes to all of your video ideas too except the competition videos where the lower has to eat a caterpillars or a nasty 🐟 ! It is funny for about a sec, but that is where it ends! I feel for you both, but especially Jessica for eating that caterpillar twice. We have those trees also and those are great for fishing in Indiana. Do you know if they turn into a moth or a butterfly of some kind? Take care you both and see you on the next video!

Very nice. Across from where I live( which is on a busy road), was a plot of land that had been sitting unused. And it was, for some reason, a haven for sunflowers ( or something of that sort.) And it would attract bees and butterflies. This is in Colorado Springs, so you don't see much of that. But they eventually leveled the lot. So no more sunflower and insect garden, sadly. I seem to recall some butterfly garden somewhere in town, but when I was there, it was not attracting them :)
