Just wonderful, I've been looking for "how do you start the golf downswing exercises" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (do a search on google ) ? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my buddy got great results with it.

Lightbulb moment doing this drill! All of the weight transfer and hip action videos I have seen so far explain it as pushing with my right side to transfer the weight to the left which has never made sense and never felt like something I could do in the downswing (usually reverse pivoted or humped the goat trying). Pulling my weight over to my left side with my left leg and I can finally feel the weight transfer and the start of my downswing being my hips not my shoulder or hands. Thank you so much and you just got a new sub. Interested to see your other videos! Thank you, you are awesome!

Great stuff!!!!! In all my 50-plus years of golf instruction (both as student and teacher) I have never heard anyone describe the "pulling" action of the left foot as the start of the downswing motion (not at least as clearly as you have) After trying that for only a minute or so, I could feel a drastic difference in what I would normally call a hip "shift". The pulling action of the left foot is a fantastic move to eliminate inconsistency in the downswing's lower body action, especially for an older golfer like myself, who has lost some flexibility and timing. However, this approach should work for golfers of any age. Dang, I wish I could go back in time and use this as a young man! The closest comparison I've heard might be the "grabbing of the ground" with your foot with the toes like Sam Snead did practicing barefoot ... but your image is better, in that Sam's advice might make someone think the weight is toward the left toes at impact, which would be bad. (Sorry, Sam, if I've misquoted you. I'll be thrilled to discuss this with you when I'm "up there" with you)

Chris brilliant video... I so struggle with weight shift.... this is the drill I need to drill this feel into me... I found a really additional gr8 addition that adds to the feel. I did the weight shift standing straight for about 30 minutes.. maybe 500 reps. But I put an extra sep in here before I went to the golf posture and did the full swing drill with my arms across my chest. The extra bit.. get into set-up position but only do the weight shift with out the shoulder turn... the purpose was so that I could feel my left glut load and then do the weight shift to post up. Thus I only added one more part to the first step. This helped me so much... seriously the next step with the shoulder turn was a breeze then. This is the missing piece 4 me. Reasonably Solid backswing but poor squat to square... this has nailed it. I will be doing a few hundred of each step for the next month. I can't wait to test this out with a ball next weekend. Thanks so much Chris... 50,000 gold stars!!!!

Great video! Should I be shifting my weight to the left heel to trigger the downswing and then a split second later consciously have my torso turn, or do I not consciously have my torso do anything on the downswing. Not using my arms in the swing is completely foreign to me - it's very logical and I can't wait until Spring comes to try it on the course....here in Ontario
@Rotaryswing
7 жыл бұрын
Hey Russ, glad you enjoyed the video and great question. When shifting to the left heel, the hips will be unwinding, this is causing the torso to rotate, which will be pulling the arms and shoulders down into the hitting area. I would steer clear of consciously trying to rotate your torso if you have always motored your golf swing too much from the top half. Your legs and hips will get your down into the release point just fine. Good luck and I wish you much success with your game this year. - Chris Tyler

I have tried to transfer my weight but still struggle to get back to my left side, now I start with my weight on my right side and find it so easy to transfer it to my left side when starting the down swing, a pitcher is only throwing a ball not swinging a golf club which would be trying to pull him off balance due to the length and weight of the golf club due to centrifical forces, plus more weight on the right side makes it much easier in the takeaway to get the club in a good position at the top .🙂🙂🙂

Thanks for the video! I’ve struggled with proper weight shift for years as I tend to keep most of my weight over my front foot which creates a lot of reverse spine tilt. I’ve been struggling with chronic and debilitating lower back pain for years now and improper swing mechanics, along with a variety of other high intensity sports, have made the problem a lot worse. I’ve shifted my focus entirely to developing a pain free golf swing but weight shift is still an issue. There is a lot of conflicting information online and through various instructors/teachers on how to reduce back pain when it comes to proper lumbar rotation/movement when it concerns weight shift. The chief discrepancy I’m seeing is turning of the hips during the downswing vs. bumping/laterally moving the hips toward the target and then rotating through. I’m told that shifting weight to the lead foot leads to lateral hip movement towards the target, which restricts hip rotation and puts a lot of torque on your lower back. I’m being encouraged to rotate my hips towards the target but I can’t understand how I can achieve a proper weight shift without some sort of lateral movement of the hips. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the videos!

Hi Chris, I just came across this video and need some clarification. I played baseball all through childhood and know the exact feeling you are talking about in the beginning of the video. However, in the video you describe it more as a shift - the feel I have when throwing a baseball is more like a push from the inside of my right foot. I have seen other videos of Rory McIlroy talking about this feeling, especially in the driver swing, where he feels a push from his right side and then pushes upwards almost a quarter second later with his left leg to clear his hip. Is this the feeling you are talking about? I also incorporate the left hip pull in my swing and that is a game changer - I just wonder if the right push could help add a lot more power and CHS for some people. Thanks!

If you’re loaded on the right side (hip/glute area) at the top of the backswing, do you shift weight to the left or pull with the left hip? I picked up from other rotary swing videos that it was the former. Thanks 🙏🏻

/Another take on starting the lower body before arms. But as previously commented, I think very few people actually know what 85% body weight feels like as a trigger to initiate swing. Most of us spend 50/50 or 100% on each leg most of our lives.

Can the left knee "cave in" towards the the right knee in the backswing or should it stay straight, more in line with the left foot?
@Rotaryswing
7 жыл бұрын
Hey nkost88, the left knee can and will move in towards the right knee a small amount after you have shifted to load the trail side and as the trail hip further rotates into the backswing. You want to feel little to no tension at all in the left leg as you finish your turn, which signals enough weight into the trail side AND it allows the hips to rotate properly in the backswing. It's important though to try and maintain the flex in the right leg when finishing the backswing for stability in the pelvis. Hope that helps. - Chris Tyler

This IS the magic move. Look around the muni range. You might find one person out of 50 that does it. It's the only efficient way to compress the ball. Haney, Hardy, McLean, Clampett, Hogan, Leadbetter all express the importance of this move to initiate the downswing. Do it and get the fuck out of my way on the course and look a little more athletic to me at the range for fuck sake.

This is possibly misleading. I believe the correct way to start the transition is to pressure down the trail leg as the lead knee rotates outwards towards the target. (unweighting the lead leg to a great extent) Weight/ pressure should transfer steadily across. At the point where the hips are square to the target line, weight should be about 50/50 moving to 80/20 as you push the lead leg into the ground.
