Absolutely 100% correct! I served in the Queen's Own Highlanders and it's sad to see the loss of regimental identity throughout the British Army, but especially highland regiments. Cabar Feidh gu Bragh!

I have heard about the 42nd highland foot in point of fact but I seriously doubt that the title Black Watch stands for the colour of the soldiers' skin.

I think you will find when you go back to the Gaelic roots, Am Freiceadan Dubh you will find the name refers more to their penchant for settling old and new scores with the locals.They were also known to liberate the odd beastie, bread, eggs, anything not nailed to the ground in grand hielund fashion Dubh in the Gaelic translates to black, also evil, nasty, wicked, bad, dark and so on and so forth. Freiceadan means guard Watchman I wore the 42 kilt many years ago.

just wondering across the pond, is your spelling the original Gaelic? so much is proud history, I just wondered! I can imagine they put fear into the enemy as they approached with music and banners waving. duller appearance today, but deadlier weapons.

Why you have these men in your regiments now is because your white pussies will not join up. So less of the racist BS, sign up if you are concerned. The coloured gentlemen are recruited from CW countries, little armchair trolls. I would take those men at my side then you, in fact would be proud to serve with them.

djcorbin...weapons that seems redundant for a bayonet? You clearly are ignorant then considering there's been large scale bayonet charges in Afghanistan due to depleted ammunition during firefights. Unlike US troops and their decorative weapons, we like to carry the weapons we're trained with... it doesn't make sense to carry any other weapon.
@darkpurplelightblue

Well then why don't you wear the uniforms you trained in? If you're going to wear than unconventional ceremonial garb, you oughta get something that matches it.

No, it isn't. Match your ceremonial wear with ceremonial weapons- match your conventional weapons with conventional wear.

Foreign recruits from the Commonwealth (ie, Fijians) are often allocated spots in Scottish regiments to keep them up to strength. This stems from the "Save the Scottish Regiments!" movement, which persuaded the government to retain a disproportionately high number of these units (at the expense of Irish, English and Welsh regiments, who were hit by cutbacks harder). Consequently, these Scottish units had a disproportionately smaller population to draw from, and struggled to recruit enough men to be effective.
