I instruct welding classes at our local college. I also work for a large oil company full time for credentials lol, i saw one of your videos where you started from bottom to top which is text book. I constantly see people in my classes and out in field start top to bottom. I know it can be done with certain rods but what do you preach and teach. Cause in this video they where going top to bottom also. Enjoy you videos also

@@Atm_Made_It I would recommend starting from bottom working way to top. Make sure all your prep work is good. Just recently I got to go watch the test, we had 14 welders testing for 6g for pipeline work for the company I work for. Only 3 passed out of the 14. Only common pattern I saw is the ones who failed started top to bottom and possible tie ins were not done well.

Every day try to practice bro. The more you weld the better you will become. Listen to a the shop welds. Mimic their style and then create your own

I see you got a Anadarko hat on. I have done a lot of welding for them. But they just got bought out by Oxy. They are keeping me on another job for now. Oxy is supposed to be drilling 80 wells on just one lease in Midland just right off the loop 250. I enjoy your instagram too. Glad to see you actually have a passion for this trade. I work with a lot of guys who are in it just for the money.

If in doubt on the light . Weld the coupon solid on each end and add water . With a pressure if water comes out it fails if not it passed . . With a pressure if water going into the coupon at one end . Bout like a check valve one way . Either way good video. . Seems true cause the welder had a,generator sound reveling up when the rod is struck

What lens is most common out there? Do you perfer a auto dark lens or a passive lens? Ive been trying to find a good on for my other hood. Ive been using a entry level lincoln auto dark hood. Also, should you be able to somewhat see things with a passive shade that is in a pancake or is that too light for high amp welding?

Luke Main the gap will either close up or widen and depending on where you’re at in reference to the pipe you need to run hotter or colder due to gravity.

If pipe welding is , i hope you have a long time experience.. pipe welders are always a step higher than that of normal welders . @@TheWeldProfessor im on the east coast and work in new england. Im a boiler maker/ mechanic. We run uphill everything where i work. But im not a pipeline welder. I do weld pipe and tube but i dont do pipeline work, id love to try it someday. We run a 60 root sometimes too but ive never been allowed to run it down hill. I see alot of the mid and west coast guys run a downhill 60 root. Is that because you are running so hot?

@@ItIswhatitis26 ya know in different parts of the world the procedure is different that’s all. The pipeline lets us go down yes. They find it to be be just as strong if you do it correctly. And I’m not the smartest but to my knowledge the 6010 is an all position rod which means you can run it in any direction to accomplish the same outcome. I don’t beat people up who can’t run it down. It took me awhile to figure it out. And same with running it up. Only time I go up is if im tigging the bead of 7018/7016 the bead. But anytime I get to do 6010 bead it’s down.

Sorry guys but i have to ask, im no expert, but taught differently, i was taught to grind every end of a rootpass for good tie-in, and on tacks i was taught to weld it only at bevels so i can grind to remove when i should, its confusing that is also a american standard we follow, but you guys doing other way around why is that?and also i was taught that its a no no going downhill on a pipe. Love these job keep it up...
