Wow this is the closest Wes I’ve ever heard! I have the L5 I just need the amp and I’ll sound exactly like Wes! 😂 Thanks for this because I’m the biggest Wes fan. Stern had a cat named Wes and I named my dog Wes but you take the cake with your son! I have a daughter and I was really campaigning for her name to be Wes but her mom would have cut off my nuts! Really appreciate these vidz

Standel is alive and well! You can read more history on our website. Great to see such renewed interest in Wes’ playing. Wes also used the model 82L15 which we will soon be reissuing. He purchased his amps at Manny’s Music in NYC - and he visited Bob Crooks at the factory in LA. Apparently they were the only amps he was ever truly happy with. Great video and thanks for sharing!

Rich and Wes I have a Standel head no reverb I bought around 1967 from a steel player I took lessons from. He made me a custom 2 12 cab with Altecs which I have to this day :)

I believe that Chet Atkins used a Standel amp on pretty much everything he recorded during his entire career.

'Sorry I missed the live-stream. You guys need an A-B switch for when you do amp comparisons. That way, you could do quick back-and-forth to compare tone. And it's true that you can't do a proper comparison unless you've taken the tone controls into account and balance them before-hand. Fun to hear the L5/Standel combination -- Thanks!

Thanks @TotallyTuberous - An A-B switch would be awesome. It's just really hard to pull off. But you bring up a great point. It might be do-able to get some new mics... and exact pair... pre-mic both amps... then switch chords real quick. The problem is that the guitars don't have two inputs. But you definitely got me thinking!

Looked like Wes's fingers wore thru the top finish in his anchor spot. A thumb with a mighty tone. Cheers!

On Canadien Sunset intro, Wes used the low F on the E string and the C on the A string I like. If it's the JBL 15'' he used on the standel Amp ? One of the favorite tunes With Wes Montgomery. Wanna like to hear it on this chanel too. I have a Henriksen Head with Reazers Edge 10'. Was only sold in limit quantities ''combo'' from the factory in. Really happy with the sound. Politone solidstate amps was first used by Accordion Players like Tommy Gumina and Art Van Damme. Like The Art Van Damme Quintet with Joe Pass and Eberhard Weber on ''Blue World'' and ''Keep Going'' I like the airy clean sound of the D'Angelico guitar.

@@RichSeversonGuitar it's interesting,...and I think wes did not hit the strings hard because you can hear smoothness, swing, soft, and I am sure the action that he used was quite low....
