For so many Ru citizens it is important the West is afraid of Ru. And without western technology Ru is just a pityful 3rd world country with nukes. The problems of all the sick depicted in this film can be solved at once by putin. They will and have before. This isn’t the first time Russia has faced adversity. Even then, this adversity is solvable, even in the interim. As for the long term, I see Russia developing their own medicine and medical implements. In fact, Russia does make MRI machines, albeit not in the volumes they were importing them from the west. One of the reasons was that they were giving kickbacks for those imports. But give it a few years, and production volumes will increase, along with the number of products. Once that happens, Russia will also start exporting, threatening big pharma’s market share in the process. This already happened with food products.

That’s what will happen eventually. As you pointed out, Russia does have this capability, and have done such things before. But still, it is sad that people are suffering, even if it is during this transitional period. However, once Russia gets out of it, and they will, sanctions on medical supplies will be one less bullet for the west. Not only when it comes to Russia, but other countries as well. For the simple reason that if these sanctions on medical supplies weren’t imposed on Russia, Russia would just keep buying them. But when Russia is able to replace them with their own analogs, they won’t limit their distribution to Russia. They will sell them globally, undermining the grip which big pharma has on the world.

The sanctions never had anything to do with preventing war and the hardships imposed on ordinary people are not an unintended consequence. Remember Iraq - ten years of sanctions just led to another war, over the corpses of a million ordinary Iraqi citizens. The sanctions are designed to undermine Russia's human strength and to try and turn its people against the government. It is a cowardly form of war not an alternative to war. And by the way, the sanctions began long before the war even started, its just that you weren't told about it.

Sanctions against any country always hit ordinary people the hardest. Let's remember how the sanctions imposed on Iraq in 1991 affected children the most. Tens of thousands of sick children died from 1991 to 2003 because of the shortage of medicines and medical devices as a direct result of the sanctions. Saddam Hussein did not lose power because of this. We all know how he lost power. And precisely because of this, sanctions should be considered a crime against the civilian population, and any state that unilaterally imposes them should be considered a terrorist state. P.S. A state that fights against neo nazis and against a militaristic alliance that is spreading like a cancer is on the right side of the history.
