Bull here. Tom this is one of the best podcasts that I've heard and definitely the best podcast about the gym. It makes me proud and nothing has made me miss him more. Just perfectly well done.

Wow! Good to see and hear Jim tell these stories. Obviously, they're an oral historical record that needs to be shared. While I was a member of the OSU Weightlifting club--and, one of the few who never truly achieved--it was always a privilege and honor to be in with so many of those who were great. I met Louie, and he helped me too. So, yeah...I'm going to go watch Westside vs The World again.

I have to comment on something Jim said about the OSU weightlifting club. I started at OSU in 1979 and had a very similar experience to the one Jim described. Just like Jim..."I heard a lot of banging and clanking coming from the SW corner of the stadium" as I was headed up to the towers dorms. I peeked into the "dungeon" behind the two red doors...and sure enough there were several people throwing some weights around. One of those people was Jim Seitzer. I had never lifted weights before but was invited by a guy named Dean..I think...to try some deadlifts. After one visit to the OSU weight club I was hooked. Drove to a local sports store and bought a weight belt, knee wraps and hand straps!! At this time (1979) Jim was in amazing shape and I remember him doing single leg extensions and leg presses (lying down) with a fair amount of weight! I never competed in powerlifting but trained with several who did over the next decade (never cared much for the bodybuilding routine). Today I still go to the gym and work out with weights to stay fit. Love it😃

What a great episode of helpful content for anyone who has followed the Westside style of training. I know I learned a great deal. Thank you Westside Barbell, Tom Barry, and Jim Seitzer for this content. Mr Seitzer does not promote his products here, but he has carried on in Lou’s philosophy with his outstanding Bandbell products.

Thank you for posting! I've been through a lot of articles/interviews/podcasts/seminars and haven't found much on Louie's general rules around recovery and some of the principles he applied to get over a lot of his various injuries to where he was able to still be elite in his 60s - would it be possible to get a glimpse into this?

I have the scout hyper from Rogue and to add load/force myself to control more, I stuck an eye screw into my gym wall and attached bands to it. Explode it up and control it back down.
