Thank you for sharing your journey with Scout's heartworm treatment. Glad to read in your update that she's doing well! My rescue dog is heartworm+ and we went with the 3 shot treatment; he got the first injection this Monday. I share the same concerns about keeping him calm. Thankfully the vet anticipated that and prescribed a sedative. But still, it's not fun for him😢. I teared up when you said you love Scout so much because I feel the same about my pup.

Thank you so much and yes, we did have to crate her for the entire treatment. Leading up to the start of treatment, we began training her to lay down and relax for longer periods of time in the crate so it wouldn't feel abrupt. She's made a full recovery and healthier than ever! 😍

Thanks, Eric. We're thankful that Scout is responding well to the treatment. It was interesting to learn about the different options available today (1 injection with 2 more a month later or 2 injections immediately with no follow-up). It sounds like many shelter dogs get the latter option since it reduces the amount of time before they can be viably adopted (as little as 2 weeks after the 2x shots like Scout received). We're still going to rest her as the vet recommended for at least 4 weeks, but compared to the larger (and more effective) 3 injection treatment plan it will reduce her rest period by up to 8 weeks! Thanks as always for watching and your support. 👍 -Howard

Years ago, your dog was hospitalized to have arsenic IV treatments. You had a 50/50 chance of even a mild case surviving. Source, adopted a dog with heart worms. Heart worm prevention pills are expensive, but less expensive than treating your dog for heart worms, without the damage to their heart and lungs. You have to give the pills like birth control pills-even more so, you can’t miss a day.
@boatingnyc123
3 жыл бұрын
It’s it gets any worse there is also a surgical procedure .. but it should remind dog owners to make sure when proscribed for their dogs to take their pills regularly .. especially in more tropical and hotter climate areas where there are usually a higher rate of heart worm problems
@NewstateNomads
3 жыл бұрын
She has a very mild case, but yes. Definitely an option! And you're right any that, we hope it spreads awareness about the importance of preventative. Sadly, she got it in Mexico before we met her. But she's on the road to recovery now! ♥️🐾 Thanks for watching! -Katelyn

I’m about to go through this (I never missed a heartworm pill) and I adopted a rescue dog she is about 2 years old , my vet said she has adult worms and I will be doing the 2 shots I am very worried because my dog is super active and barks often. How hard was it for the 4-6 weeks to keep your dog quiet? I am very worried about the fact that she barks if sees any other dog. Do you notice any after effects?

Hi Brian! I am so sorry you have to go through this with your pup! It was actually much easier than I thought it as going to be to keep her calm. The vet gave me calming treats I was able to give her if needed, and that did help occasionally. We kept her in her crate most of the time and just gave her extra cuddles and love. We can tell she's so much healthier now and actually keeping weight on. that was a problem before. I hope it goes smoothly for you, hang in there!

hi Brian, how is your dog doing? I am in the very same situation. Almost identical. Also just rescued a two year old dog with heartworm disease which was disclosed to me at Humane Society. With my previous dog never missed a pill. He is already on treatment with antibiotic, in two weeks will have first injection. Scared to death because he is very sweet and friendly but incredibly active and energetic. My vet gave me sedation pills but they work sort of hit and miss - he has still get outburst of energy despite being on these meds. Walk with him at night, because he reacts to everything. Got a big crate for him and tons of toys but I don't know how I will be able to handle several weeks of total quietness, please let me know how you did it. Or how you doing it, seems to me that you are still in the process.mI think we need to have some special Facebook support group or something. As parents of dogs with this disease. I think I will start it. Wishing you well, please let me know how is your pup.

Have you ever heard of black walnut wormwood natural treatment? It’s completely safe and given at home. $10 a bottle. We actually had s get that was going to treat our dog and for almost $1000. We got a second opinion and his case was so mild we decided to go with preventative instead. Now I’ve heard of the black walnut/wormwood combination.

did it work. I'm also trying this with my dog now the last cpl weeks. she didnt' show any signs but my other dog had to be put down bcuz he apparently had a bad case. he just suddenly got ill and starting losing weight. no other signs until his last week. he still had a very healthy appetite and still running around. then his last week he suddenly started breathing heavy and getting bloated. His sister has no cough, no loss of appetite. no blood in stools. looks very healthy but tested positive. she's been on the steroids and antibiotics the last 3 wks now. but I don't have that $1200 to spend on the shots which I heard people saying had bad effects on their dogs. I'm wondering if the Blakwalnut wormwood complex and Artemesia and clove will help. I give 3x a day
