Many of us try to get our warm weather gardens planted by May . . . then some of us don't get around until mid June! Is all lost? NOPE! Planting late has advantages and lots of opportunities for an abundant harvest!
Lindsay talks about what it may be too late to plant, what can still be planted from seed, and what you should really plant from starts, especially at this point.
To calculate how much soil you need, the formula mentioned in video:
Depth of desired amount of soil, as a decimal of a foot
x
Length of surface, as a decimal of a foot
x
Width of surface, as a decimal of a foot
For instance, I am trying to fill my garden beds. I estimate, I need about 2 inches. To figure out how many cubic feet I need, divide the total number of inches desired (2) by the number of inches in a foot (12). This equals about .67 of a foot. The width of my bed is 4 feet (no converting needed), and length is 8 feet (no converting needed).
Therefore, .67 x 4 x 8 = 5.33 cubic feet.
When dealing with larger volumes, where cubic yards is needed to figure out, just divide the total cubic feet by 27, since there are 27 cubic feet per yard (3ft x 3ft x 3ft). There ya go!
